Boarded Miller after loading to deliver the blow right in the back of his head.

Yeah, he trained him from the top of the circle. Went directly at his head, which slammed directly into the boards. Incredible, incredible no call.

The type of hit I'd expect to get a league review, but refs sitting around staring at it did not make a call.

That has to be an in-person hearing, especially since he wasn't even punished on the ice.

Ugh, what a disgusting hit. Shoulder directly to the back of the neck, he could have broken his neck. That looked AWFUL.

Seriously. Just a really, really dangerous hit. And an awkward one, too. It's almost like he adjusted down to ensure he nailed his head.

Might need 2 more defensemen for the Calgary game. Trotman and Warsofsky?

Nice weekend for the B's, all things considered. Back in first place.

Amazingly, Phaneuf won't qualify as a repeat offender because that fucker has gotten away with a couple of dirty hits in the last 18 months.

I had no idea about the 18 month thing until today. Guess I shouldn't be surprised the NHL doesn't understand the meaning of "repeat."

Technically I still have 2.5 years of club hockey eligibility so I'm not sure I want to ruin my amateurism early.

Jesus.  Hits him square in the name, above the numbers.

Nothing will happen to him, because the NHL is run by chimps.

It definitely should've been a boarding call but I'm not sure it rises to the level of supplementary discipline.  Could go either way though because Miller's back is turned the entire time Phaneuf goes to line him up.

With that level of pre-meditation, Phaneuf will be lucky to avoid jail time. At least he has a home jury working in his favor.

No worries.

You can still play like an amateur after you turn pro.

I'm Brendan Shanahan of the National Hockey League's Player of Department Safety.

Sunday night in Toronto an incident ocurred between the Boston Bruins and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

At 17:49 of the third period Toronto defensemen Dion Phaneuf delivered an illegal check from behind against Bruins defensemen Kevan Miller, causing him to crash violently into the boards. The video shows that while rookie Kevan Miller has his back to the playing surface and his head lowered to the ice veteran Leafs defensemen Dion Phaneuf engages the defenseless Miller, delivering an illegal check into the boards.

Although there was no call on the ice, this is Boarding as defined by rule 41.1 which states : "A boarding penalty shall be imposed on any player or goalkeeper who checks or pushes a defenseless opponent in such a manner that causes the opponent to hit or impact the boards violently in the boards."

This is the type of play that the National Hockey League is trying to eliminate. Rookie Kevin Miller of Boston carelesslessy exposes himself to Dion here on our home ice in Toronto allowing Neufy to impressively lay waste to him in the near corner.

I ran into Dneuf at Crawlers last night and he said he was totally sorry. "Tell them I didn't see him there," he giggled.

Because the result of the play was no apparent injury, the National Hockey League will impose no additional discipline on the rookie (Kevin Millar or something?) for attempting to hurt Neufy's elbow with the back of his head.
