Thanks Prick. PS - In case you don't remember, Eli is 2-0 against Brady in the postseason.
11 - 5. I believe it is 2-2 in the post-season, and Peyton has edge in Conf Championship games, 2 to 1. Someone please correct me if any of this is mistaken.

Meanwhile, Chad Finn does beautiful work:

That non-call was the result of the offiating team, not on any change from Gronk. The officiating crew against KC was noted for calling few, if any OPIs during the season.

One of the OPIs against Gronk against Denver was exactly the type of situation you describe above -- a subtle move with his left shoulder that created separation on the break. It all comes down to what official is watching Gronk
Pretty sure its mixed crews during the playoffs so trying to figure out who is going to call what becomes even harder because its not the same umpire, back judge, etc. as during the season.

Few thoughts:
-I watched the SD game and obviously this one and Chris Harris didn't look himself in either. I believe him that he is not 100%.
-Related to this, Talib has played all but two games since signing with Denver, and one of those was a suspension. I thought he was injury prone? Or maybe that term is mostly useless.
-I didn't notice Von Miller against Pittsburgh. No idea if he's hurt at all, they doubled him, or what, but he is usually a monster and didn't do much.
-The drops were drops but a lot of them were bad throws -- apart from being wobbly, usually Peyton led the receiver too much and he had to reach. On another day they catch a couple more of them, but I don't think they made a huge difference (Also, receivers drop a certain amount of even perfect passes).
-I'd love to be a fly on the wall for Patricia and BB's meetings about defending Peyton. Do they dare him to go deep?
-There's no reffing conspiracy against NE, but there is home field bias. Obviously that's the big wild card.

Pats win 27-16, Denver actually moves the ball a bit but they don't get any turnovers or big returns and Allen pins them on punts so they have bad field position all day and have to settle for FGs. Anderson is stripped by Collins late in the third, the Pats punch it in and they hold them off the rest of the game.

It's a total slight to Brady to consider this "Brady-Manning". Brady is still an elite, sharp QB. Manning is a washed-up, broken mess who got dragged this far by his teammates.

I'd be steaming all week watching this coverage and hearing the media give Manning just as much credit for being here in the AFCCG.

This is true. I guess my point was that Gronk has even been called on a subtle move, so it all depends on the official

where I was last at
was just listening to Francesa who is a huge Manning fan, and his take (paraphrase)

"...anyone who thinks this is Brady v Manning doesn't get it.

Denver is a great D, and good running game with a 3rd tier QB.

I hope Denver wins by 100, I always do in these games, but Manning doesn't have the arm any more to make plays anymore

He looks like an old man now and its hard for me to watch..."

dcmissile, 11-5 is what I came up with too after a little coaching from Laddie.

It's really too bad this game isn't being played in NE. A nice welcoming chant for Peyton of H-G-H from one half of the stadium, followed by P-E-D from the other half would have been pretty good.

Early line I'm seeing is Pats -3.5. Probably a nice teaser with Car -3.5 at home.

All due respect to Dogman2, and admittedly me being a non-skier plays a part of this, but if someone asked me to compile a list of states I'd never want to visit, that'd pretty much be it.

Doesn't really matter with the secondary market that exists today. Just means Pats fans have to pay a little more.

I'll feel better about the game once we see Collins and Hightower practicing.

Without them healthy Denver can run it down NE throat, limit possessions and gas the d by the end of the game.
Pitt has a strong run d, particularly at LB, which played a huge role in them stopping Denver all day.
...
I'm quite confident about this game and early reports are that both Collins and Hightower will play. Their health -- and that of Jones -- is the only thing that to me opens up a window for the Broncos. If they play but are limited, it will let the Broncos both run and execute the short passing game. If they are healthy enough to be effective, though, then I just love this match-up: the Pats can bunch the line both to stop runs and short passes...having no fear of Manning going deep despite his excellent WRs.

I know the wind forecast is pretty mild at 5-10 MPH right now...but hoping that picks up, too.

All good and yeah, these states are terrible and pretty much a waste of money and open space. Golf courses, strip malls, traffic, people are where it is at, yo.

I really hope nobody plans any trip out this way, it's boring. I am too, even. Really, really dull.

I'm a non-skier and I've very much enjoyed my summer visits to Colorado and western South Dakota. My son is moving to Utah in March and I'm looking forward to more visits to the Mountain West.

I think Denver's best game plan is to add a few wrinkles to their running attack to make it even more effective. Keep the ball out of the hands of Brady (and Manning) as much as possible.

Full quote from Brandon Marshall:

Broncos linebacker Brandon Marshall and Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski will be on the field at the same time. And Marshall addressed on Monday’s PFT Live the question of why it’s so hard to cover Gronkowski.

“I say ’cause he pushes off,” Marshall said. “I mean, he pushes off and he gets away with it about 98 percent of the time.”

Last afccg played between Denver and New England the one vital link to the defense, which could not be lost, was Talib and what did Denver do? With everyone understanding the importance of Edelman I fear the same treatment.
May be irrational but Sunday cannot come soon enough.

Chris Harris playing in pain with a shoulder bone bruise should be big--he says he can't jam a receiver, so has to play off, and will not play in the base defense. Is this why they played zone against the Steelers? I think Edelman and Gronk will make them pay--which is probably why Marshall is trying to set them up for more OPI calls.

We were talking in the injury thread about the limited availability of Chris Harris, Jr. Here is my take on it that I moved over to this thread as I thought it'd be more appropriate here.

If true about his limited availability, it's huge IMO. Harris is a versatile CB who can play the slot position better than Talib and Roby can. That would put Kayvon Webster in for more snaps which is a good thing. It would also theoretically limit Denver's ability to put Talib on Gronkowski. I've been of the opinion that Chris Harris is their best corner so if he's not on the field for the majority of snaps it severely hampers Denver's secondary. You already have an advantage when either Ward or Darian Stewart is in coverage and now Harris is limited. I'd say the odds of the Patriots going 4 and 5 wide for the whole game are at about 99.9%. In man you'd have something like this if Harris is limited :
Talib--LaFell
Roby--Edelman
Webster--Amendola
Lorenzo Doss--Martin
Marshall--White
Trevathian or Ward--Gronkowski

Do they bring in Harris to cover Edelman on 3rd downs? Are they dumb enough to put Talib on Edelman?

Let's also not forget that Omar Bolden is down for this game as well. That moves Shiloh Keo into being active as their 3rd or 4th safety.

F'ing brilliant:

Brady himself has been cheating for years by ommission. He's known for a long long time that eating tomatoes is a Performance Dehancing Drug and has kept silent. By allowing Manning to open up Papa Johns franchises left and right, Brady has been willfuly contributing to Mannings downfall.

Not sure, but San Diego did this the year the Pats beat them with Troy Brown at corner.
Denver did this a few years ago against the pats. I helped someone on sosh get a ticket.

Pretty sure the Rockies did it in 07 too.

I agree Brady will spread out five receivers, and Denver will have real coverage problems. Kayvon Webster and Lorenzo Doss have hardly seen the field this year (Webster 50 coverage snaps, Doss...zero?), and Brady will target them, and Harris playing loose, not to mention the LB on Gronk.

There's no doubt that Harris hurt. He only played 75% of the snaps against Pittsburgh and he clearly wasn't himself when he was on the field. But I do wonder whether there is some gamesmanship involved in him immediately declaring himself limited for next week and Kubiak saying that he is playing with one arm. Maybe he is just trying to make excuses for his own subpar play but I wouldn't necessarily take it at face value and I hope (and expect) the Patriots are preparing a game plan that makes no strong assumptions about his availability.

But I agree with your general point. If Harris is out or ineffective, that's huge. Denver really doesn't have a lot of secondary depth and has been fortunate to keep their top three CBs healthy pretty much all year. Webster has played 69 defensive snaps this year, Doss has played 3. I like any man-to-man matchup on those guys and especially situations like bunched receivers or other combination routes that require them to communicate well and make complex decisions on the fly.

I would run bubble screens and a sweep right at Harris if he is on the field on first down. Force him to take on blockers and make a tackle.

Run some crossers to see if he can fight thru traffic as well.
Absolutely.

Btw, you've got one too many skill position players to match up with here, at least on any given play.

In Denver, air gets you.

Quick check of 4th Quarter differentiation this year: Denver 63 pts - Visitor 40 pts.

Not scientific, but I assume the Pats know how to pace themselves against the best home field advantage in sports.

I really don't think there is gamesmanship from Harris. He injured himself week 17 and was clearly still quite limited after two weeks. His comments came immediately after the game, and it wasn't the first time he's said things right after a game that weren't well thought-out.

Harris pulled himself out at one point after a weak push-tackle that propelled Bryant forward and another on some pretty standard contact from one of his own guys. He may be out there more than he said in the emotion of the moment, but it would be quite surprising if he's near his normal self. If he can't press and is playing with one arm, does Kubiak even want him on Edelman or Amendola? Probably, but some elite players can't bear playing at a substandard level and would rather pull themselves out, and Harris may be one of those guys. Or it could just really hurt a lot.
