#Padres RHP Tyson Ross claimed on waivers by unidentified club. SD has 48.5 hours from time of claim to trade Ross, pull him back or allow him to go to claiming club. Ross owed just over $500K for rest of season.

Cardinals claim Tyson Ross off waivers from San Diego.

Brewers claimed Jordan Lyles from Padres as well

As with Ross, SD let him go for no compensation

That's an odd one since Bour's under team control for two more years, and the Phils already have Carlos Santana signed longer. They'll have to unload Bour after the season. There would be some logic in platooning the two, but sticking your recently signed free agent in the short-side of a platoon might not be the best idea, even if it's just for a couple months. Santana has never hit until June, but has always been a beast in the 2nd half. This year he actually started to pull out of his early season crater in May, but then went cold again, and has never really gotten hot like other years. He has looked better the last week or so, though.

Anyway, Marlins gonna Marlin... I guess this saves them about $1 million on a guy they'd non-tender this fall without regard to whether they have any talent behind him.

Definitely a bit strange all around, I have to think the Marlins could have done a bit better than that if they'd actively tried to move him in July instead of having it be the Phillies (who claimed him) or no one.

Given what the 1st base market was this off season and Bour being terrible this year I can kind of see him not drawing much interest.

He's maybe a one or two win player and will probably make a total of 10-12 mill over the next two years through arbitration.

Yeah, Bour is the kind of guy the Phillies wouldn't trade for given they already have a long-term first baseman. But picking him up for nothing off the waiver wire with ~6 weeks to go...why not? They're not especially potent off the bench, so he helps in a pinch hitting situation. If they manage to make it to the World Series, he's a good DH option.

And they should probably find a taker for him in the off-season...it's not like they need to get a significant return for him since he's effectively found money.

Old friend and sometime "can we get him back?" guy Danny Valencia was DFA'd by these Orioles before last night's game.

#Nationals put a number of players on revocable trade waivers yesterday, including Harper and Murphy, sources tell The Athletic. Team’s intentions not clear; virtually every player goes on waivers as matter of procedure this time of year. Nats 7 games out in NL East, 5 1/2 in WC.

Harper owed ~$5M, Murphy ~$4M. Both potential FAs. Nats might simply want to see if they clear, giving GM Rizzo option to make deal before 8/31 if team fades. Harper seems less likely to move. Rizzo at non-waiver deadline: “Bryce is not going anywhere. I believe in this team.”

Harper unlikely to clear. If he gets that far, Philly likely to claim him.

If Doolittle is healthy by end of month, he’s a difference maker. Wonder if they tried to push him through already.

Wait, if waivers "expired" does that mean he cleared them? If it does, that certainly doesn't mean he's staying, it means he could go to anyone they work out deal with.

It means he was claimed but the 48 hour window to work out a deal has expired, so they pulled him back

They will get a pick after the end of the 4th round (because the Nats are luxury tax payers), so you're looking at around the 135th pick in the draft. Is it worth it to just get that pick or try and get some kind of decent prospect? The Dodgers probably weren't offering anything at or above that level of player, so the Nats probably just figured to pull him back.

What expired was the negotiation window once the Dodgers claimed him. You have a specified time period within which to work out a trade, IIRC 48.5 hours.

No deal and the fair inference is that the Nats pulled Harper back. He certainly is not out there for the taking.

Adams went to SL for $50K.

And salary relief, of course. But how can you say you are improving your team for the present or the future when you make a deal like that?

Giving younger players more playing time? All Adams is going to play is 1B or LF. They are stuck with Zimmerman at 1B for another year. And they aren't going to bench Soto or Harper at this point. So he's taking up roster space unnecessarily. At least he might get some regular PT with the Cards. It's addition by subtraction.

I guess 50k is better than 0k, but i am surprised they couldn't even get a borderline low A player with one good tool in return.

I guess the Cards just wanted to make sure that no other team claimed him. Let's see how many games he actually plays.

I'm guessing Adams was picked up because Marcell Ozuna was playing hurt, so he should at least get an opportunity to earn regular playing time since Ozuna is now on the DL.

I'd be surprised if the Indians aren't one of the teams in on at least one of McCutcheon and Hamilton. It looks like Hamilton is being pulled back though, and he would have only been an upgrade defensively. Greg Allen isn't exactly an offensive force to be reckoned with, but he's still better than Hamilton, and the Indians don't really need a pinch-runner since one of Allen or Rajai Davis will be available off the bench in October anyway.

Not a waiver per se but Matt Holliday was called up by the Rockies. As someone who was around when he was in his prime here in Denver (and someone who is aging in dog years) I’d love to see him contribute.

Absolutely. He tore the cover off the ball in his short AAA stint, and he was decent with the MFY last year. I'm cautiously optimistic that he'll contribute down the stretch.

I really wish it worked like a fantasy league. If you claim someone you go to back of the line. I’m only partially biased in that it’s my team thats last in the process with no hope of anyone having gotten to them, but it has always struck me as dumb that one team can just there and grab people left and right.
