#Padres RHP Tyson Ross claimed on waivers by unidentified club. SD has 48.5 hours from time of claim to trade Ross, pull him back or allow him to go to claiming club. Ross owed just over $500K for rest of season.

Cardinals claim Tyson Ross off waivers from San Diego.

Brewers claimed Jordan Lyles from Padres as well

As with Ross, SD let him go for no compensation

That's an odd one since Bour's under team control for two more years, and the Phils already have Carlos Santana signed longer. They'll have to unload Bour after the season. There would be some logic in platooning the two, but sticking your recently signed free agent in the short-side of a platoon might not be the best idea, even if it's just for a couple months. Santana has never hit until June, but has always been a beast in the 2nd half. This year he actually started to pull out of his early season crater in May, but then went cold again, and has never really gotten hot like other years. He has looked better the last week or so, though.

Anyway, Marlins gonna Marlin... I guess this saves them about $1 million on a guy they'd non-tender this fall without regard to whether they have any talent behind him.

Definitely a bit strange all around, I have to think the Marlins could have done a bit better than that if they'd actively tried to move him in July instead of having it be the Phillies (who claimed him) or no one.

Given what the 1st base market was this off season and Bour being terrible this year I can kind of see him not drawing much interest.

He's maybe a one or two win player and will probably make a total of 10-12 mill over the next two years through arbitration.

Yeah, Bour is the kind of guy the Phillies wouldn't trade for given they already have a long-term first baseman. But picking him up for nothing off the waiver wire with ~6 weeks to go...why not? They're not especially potent off the bench, so he helps in a pinch hitting situation. If they manage to make it to the World Series, he's a good DH option.

And they should probably find a taker for him in the off-season...it's not like they need to get a significant return for him since he's effectively found money.

Old friend and sometime "can we get him back?" guy Danny Valencia was DFA'd by these Orioles before last night's game.

Oakland seems like a potential fit
