So, I assume most Red Sox fans want to see the following:

Blue Jays take the division
Twins and Tigers take the WC

Houston wins the WS

Carrasco 0runs, 1 hit, 1 walk, 1 hbp after 9 innings. 100 pitches in a tied game. Might pitch the tenth ?

EDIT: nope!

Tied in the tenth Rays go to Boxberger. Single then steal+error puts him on third.

Fly out then two intentional walks to load the bases followed by a walkoff walk.

Donaldson is God. Curses on Toronto for their seemly endless ability to scout and acquire power hitters.

He hit 24 and 28 HRs the past 2 seasons. I don't think it has to do with them scouting power hitters.....they made a good deal and he's better this year than last, but it isn't like they found a 22 year old off the scrap heap and he blossomed into a power hitter

One of everybody's favorite expressions of the century, though: "he took it to another level" this year.

Dodgers get 3 runs in the top of the first for Greinke. Game? Well, first and third bottom first no out for Phillies. Nomar in the booth for MLBN. Good color guy.

Mikael Franco is unbelievably talented, one of the best few young players I've seen all year.

Royals yost one away today, use middle relief in the bottom of the 9th in a tie game at Detroit ... two batters later, ballgame.

Saving the closer for extra innings is useless if you never make it out of the ninth

To be fair to Yost, Ryan Madson is not a middle reliever. If he was on the Sox, he'd be the #2 setup guy after Tazawa.

Carlos Correa is unbelievable, just blasted a 2 run HR to deep left center in OAK in the 8th to put HOU up 3-2.

That's the most exciting team to come around in baseball in a while, IMO.

Drew Storen shows why the Nats needed Papelbon. Sadly, Matt Williams still can't manage one of the most talented pitching staffs in the game.

Just watched the Jays destroy the Yanks. The Yankees look like a team that's half dead.

I'd love that to be true, but they were due for a slump.

Lots of people on this board buried the Yankees after they lost the 19-inning game then got dominated by Joe Kelly the next day/

Jonathan Schoop just missed Home Plate... and was called out so it nullifies the run

Absolute insanity going on in Arizona.  Put it on MLBN.

Edit:  They just cut away.  Anyways, the D-Backs had bases loaded in a tie game in extra innings.  Long flyball over the drawn in outfield plates the winning run.  However, the runners on 1st and 2nd peeled off and never touched 2nd and 3rd respectively.  Bryan Price caught this and the Reds went for the force play all the way around.  Play currently under review.

Yeah, I came here to try to describe it:

Tie game, bottom 10, bases loaded for ARI, one out. Ball is hit over the CF's head, hitter touches first, guy on third touches home, but the other two runners start celebrating before getting to the next bag, and never get anywhere close. At the same time, for some reason, instead of the CIN CF retrieving the ball, he has a grounds crew guy throw it to him (???) and then he throws it from there, so who the hell knows. They are in replay now.

It looks like they're letting it stand, I can't wait to hear the explanation there. Maybe the play is dead once the security guard touches the ball?

isn't the rule the run counts as soon as he touches the plate and the runner touches 1st?

The runners left the base paths before the security guard got involved, shouldn't they both be out? Although I guess, then it's no longer a force play and the run scores?

No, because if it was a grounder to third (for example) and they got forces at third and second, it wouldn't matter when the other runners touched home and first.

There was one out already, so if there are two forces, the run shouldn't count. There must be an explanation on Twitter by now, I will check.

Is it possible they screwed up by getting the force at 2nd first?

Ignoring the security guard / live ball issue, it seemed like they tagged 2nd first - if they forced the runner out at 2nd, the runner between 2nd and 3rd is no longer a force, so it's no longer a force play... so then you have safe at first, runner from third is home, so the runner between 2nd and 3rd doesn't matter anymore

Oh, wow. So it might be that since the Reds tagged second before tagging third, they removed the force play at third, and then the run counts. That is the explanation that makes the most sense that I've seen so far.

I noticed that too, but once the security guard touches it , the ball is dead. It shouldn't matter what happens after that.

Maybe someone who's better at MLB's rules can comment on that, but I don't see any reason why even if it's called a dead ball the runners necessarily get the next base - http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/official_info/official_rules/game_preliminaries_3.jsp

3.15
No person shall be allowed on the playing field during a game except players and coaches in uniform, managers, news photographers authorized by the home team, umpires, officers of the law in uniform and watchmen or other employees of the home club. In case of unintentional interference with play by any person herein authorized to be on the playing field (except members of the offensive team participating in the game, or a coach in the coachs box, or an umpire) the ball is alive and in play. If the interference is intentional, the ball shall be dead at the moment of the interference and the umpire shall impose such penalties as in his opinion will nullify the act of interference.

...

3.16
When there is spectator interference with any thrown or batted ball, the ball shall be dead at the moment of interference and the umpire shall impose such penalties as in his opinion will nullify the act of interference.
APPROVED RULING: If spectator interference clearly prevents a fielder from catching a fly ball, the umpire shall declare the batter out.

If it's called intentional, then the umpires appear to have the discretion to say that the runners had already turned around and weren't making an effort to touch 2nd and 3rd? But this is based off an initial reading, maybe someone else who actually umpires would know for sure
