If a team was thinking along these lines, I assume they would be more apt to take on Kane's full salary and hence lower the cost of acquiring him?Grab him now, toss him on LTIR and tell him see you in April, and then do something else with the space?
But did they really give up anything besides a pick that's probably somewhere in the early to mid 20s? It's a deep draft so it could certainly hit. But Blais and that D man non-prospect are nullities. It’s not a bad trade for the rangers but Drury appears out of his depth. Tank is not very good anymore, especially at 5v5, where the rangers struggle most. They are middling at gf 5v5 and have been fortunate to be mediocre. Tank does very little to help that. We will see, I guess, but this feels like a team with a poorly constructed roster that has little chance at a cup giving up assets for a player that doesn’t solve any real immediate problems.
Skinner looks to be a JAG, and Blais isn't anything but a depth guy, extra forward on a contending team. As was covered they basically gave up a mid 20's pick and a 4th/3rd round lottery ticket. So Rangers really didn't give up anything that matters for the hope Tank can rebound and recapture some past magic for them in a playoff run. From the Rangers side it's a good trade, Blues had little option with his NTC and they really got nothing in return. It’s not a bad trade for the rangers but Drury appears out of his depth. I think you are over estimating the market for rentals. Historically, rentals do not get a 1st plus good prospects or NHL players. Especially when the player leaving has trade protection. Usually these types of trades are a 1st round pick and a B/C prospect or a lower pick and a better prospect. They don't usually get both. Taylor Hall is somewhat of a comparable and he brought the Sabres a 2nd and Anders Bjork. Claude Giroux last year got Philadelphia a 2024 1st and Owen Tippett (who has turned out to be decent but at the time was thought of as a bust). Going back a little bit, Mark Stone (probably the best player of all the guys I've listed) went for a 2nd and Erik Brannstrom (at the time a top 25ish prospect in hockey). But did they really give up anything besides a pick that's probably somewhere in the early to mid 20s? That's fair. I also probably didn't appreciate how much Tarasenko has declined.I think you are over estimating the market for rentals. Getting the 1st and 3rd was a nice bit of business for St. Louis, in my opinion. Blais and Skinner are junk but their inclusion in the deal was likely to make everything work cap and contract wise. The Rangers are probably the ones who overpaid slightly in the deal but from their perpspective they had 2 first round picks projected to be around the same point of the draft so they can afford to burn one. It's probably an overpay for Tarasenko given his current decline, but my guess is they like his finishing and think he'll get a boost playing with Artemi Panarin feeding him the puck.
The circumstances really forced Buffalo. And jeez did the Bruins steal Hall.
Kane doesn't feel like a Carolina type of player. My worry with them is Timo Meier, the real prize out there at the moment. Seems like Meier is going to end up with either the Hurricanes or Devils.I’d rather Rags have Tarasenko than Kane at the end of the day. Now if Canes get him then that’s a different story.
Does anybody else get the feeling that Kane and Toews will just stay where they are?Kane doesn't feel like a Carolina type of player. My worry with them is Timo Meier, the real prize out there at the moment. Seems like Meier is going to end up with either the Hurricanes or Devils.
Also, who knows how narrow Kane's list will be if he chooses to go. The reports make it sound like if he does go the list will be 2 or 3 teams max, and the one definite just took themselves out of it.
I can see them staying put if they can’t go where they want.Does anybody else get the feeling that Kane and Toews will just stay where they are?
That would be a controversial acquisition.JFresh (I think) posted Kanye’s player card and, uh…he’s not good.
He’s also playing with a bunch of 3rd liners and AHL guys on a team that’s tanking. I wouldn’t be shocked if he turns it on if traded.JFresh (I think) posted Kanye’s player card and, uh…he’s not good.
Im not sure why everyone was so confident in his demise. Any year he's healthy and on the ice, he puts up 30+ goals. One nice hot streak and he can still do it again. Considering his low S% - which should normalize - I could see him being just as productive as always.Tarasenko isn’t wasting any time. Scores in his 2nd shift with NY.
Fyi. Kings are retiring Browns number tonight. So they may be “throwing cold water” on this deal as to not distract from todayMarek on HNIC…not the Oilers or Leafs. Kings throwing cold water on it. May not go down tonight.

In a vacuum absolutely. But I don't see how they can fit his $3M cap hit. And Oilers would be dumping him to clear space for Yamamoto so it's not like you can offer Smith straight up to get him.Depending on what goes out, if the Bruins suddenly have space in the bottom 6, I wouldn’t mind taking a flyer on Puljujarvi if he ends up on waivers.
He hasn’t lived up to expectations - but he’s defensively sound and could benefit from a change in scenery.
There's a since deleted tweet from the Kings saying the trade was complete.Hmmmm…now that the Dustin Brown thing has wrapped…smoke back on!

Oh I'm not saying otherwise, seen it in a dozen other places as well. (Thats also Alaska time, so an hour ago) Kings official page has been deleting references to it as quickly as they pop up. I'm sure it was fake, but just interesting the Kings are deleting comments about it. HahaI am 99.65 percent sure thats a fake tweet.
Not only does that have a link to nhl.com announcing the trade it was “tweeted” more than two hours ago.
Someone would have confirmed that if it was legit
also Byfield is currently playing in the game right now and was not scratched
Who posted it first? I've seen so many people post it at this point I don't know where it started. Like I said I didn't think it was real, was more just funny watching the Kings twitter delete tweets reposting it hahaThat Kings tweet is 100% not real.
The first person who posted it is a known fraud account.
As a King fan, Blake needs to be fired now so this does not go through.
I think the return to the Coyotes is going to make me happy that the B's didn't get him (and, sadly, likely make me think that they couldn't top the offer if they wanted to).As a King fan, Blake needs to be fired now so this does not go through.
Kypreos is the only one who put a name out as part of a trade package. We'll see what happens, but Kypreos isn't particularly credible and the Kings worked fast to put that fire out. Kypreos used to be on the HNIC panel but was taken off several years ago. The more credible reports have just sort of done the who's in, who's out thing which no specifics.Sounds like the Coyotes are releasing info to try and bump up their return...
Is Lohrei still considered a "top" prospect or has he lost a bit of value? I noticed his counting stats were down just a bit his soph season and thought it was curious he didn't make the hockeywriters top 100 list whereas Lysell came in at 32. Granted it is just one list and I did see Lohrei is a finalist for Hobey Baker just wondering what the consensus is on him as there isn't a lot of NHL prospect info out there.Kypreos is the only one who put a name out as part of a trade package. The Kings have always made the most sense. They have a need for an LHD and are sitting on a top 10 prospect pool plus have a full complement of draft picks. They have 5-7 Lysell/Lohrei level prospects. If the Kings decide to take the plunge, the Bruins won't be able to match or beat them.
