The oft-sated goal is to be competitive. I don't even see that. Forget the Sox being a team that can compete for the pennant. I think it would take a Steve Cohen spending spree of signing Correa, Rhodon and one of Nate, Bassitt or the Japanese pitcher, trading for Murphy and trading for Brian Reynolds to make this team competitive. As of now, by far the worse lineup in the division, a starting pitching staff with a number one starter with about 50 IP over the last three years who seems so fragile I wouldn't let him pitch if a strong wind was blowing, a number two who has missed mast of the last two years, dependable but not spectacular, Nick Pivetta who is durable but mediocre as the third starter and a wing and a prayer that our kiddie corps of starters is ready for a bigger role. The Sox finally have a back end of the pen after three years of not having one, but not enough offense or starting pitching for it to make much of a difference. Add to that our new "stud" first basement has a potato knee, our big acquisition last year is coming of a career worse performance just about the least powerful outfield and catching groups one can imagine. To add to the woes no-one that can be counted on as an every day shortstop. Seems to me Chaim is trying to turn the Sox into Houston by developing a last place ballclub for four or five years and accumulating high picks. Of course he screwed this year up by not getting under the cap last year. I have not been so down on the a Sox team outside of the covid year in decades. I hear some fans say that the off season just started. I'll give them that, but this is really a horrible start outside of adding a closer and a mid 30's setup gut. Hope our new closer learns to throw a pitch in under a minute. ope our new left fielder is worth the money we gave him instead of sweetening the pot to keep Bogey, I doubt it, but I hope.
