Don't forget Moreland's error as well.
On radio Sutcliffe was going on about a miscommunication on the play that he attributed to Andrus. The concept was that the throw was being forced in and hence the error. That's either more of Sut being Sut, or some inside baseball that I don't get.

There sure was a lot of little league from the Rangers (not just Andrus) in that inning - the crowd was incredibly ugly, like an old Toilet crowd on 'roids AND with 'roid rage, and I wonder if it was a factor.

I've seen numerous people say this and I don't get it. It was a bad throw by Martin and the just outcome. If they had overturned it because the ump called time, that would have been worse by far. The runner was going to score legally because Martin made a sloppy throw. It's no different than if he had throw it over the pitcher's head and the runner had scored.

Because it wasn't sloppy, it was incredibly bad luck.  A fluke.  If it was merely sloppy, then we'd see this a few times a year, because every player is sloppy and makes mistakes and, as many have said, "I thought I've seen it all!"  I've been watching baseball for decades, and I've never seen anything like it.  Has anyone?  To (potentially) lose your season on such a fluke is hard to comprehend.

And if you're rooting for the Jays (I was), the Baseball Gods were just.

Based on their postseason performances, I think the Sox should go after Zimmermann

The more bat flipping and fist pumping, the better IMO. If you don't like it, do your job better.

I take the fact that we rarely see it to mean that catchers are usually careful not to do that sort of thing.

What's the difference between Bautista's flip and Manny's 2007 Arms Up homer?

People take themselves too seriously.

I liked the 2003 homer off Zito better when the announcer got all indignant.

I mean, the problem with showmanship is that it threatens to emphasize the player over the team; the individual moment over the game being played. But in some cases, the moment is just huge for the team and the fans. In those rare occasions, I don't see what's wrong with some oomph.

Playing the game the right way, blah blah blah, respect, blah blah.  OK, so he's gonna wear one.  That bat flip is life: everything about it is beautiful and perfect.  What Dyson might say instead is "yeah, he got ahold of that one.  I probably should have thrown something else."

Can somebody, anybody, show me a quote from a batter complaining about a pitcher throwing a huge fist pump or dancing around like a 12 year old after getting a big strikeout?  I am sure it has been complained about before, but I can't for the life of me remember ever hearing it.  And they do it All. The. Time.  And strikeouts are WAY more numerous than big home runs.

I think these pitchers need to get the fuck over themselves.  If I hit a tiny ball that someone was throwing at me at 97 MPH and hit it 435 feet to put my team in the ALCS... you bet your god damned ass I'm gonna pimp the shit out of it.

Well, Lowe's "suck it" move in 2003 after he closed out the As got a lot of flak.

Call the fucking waambulance. Kids do it in wiffle ball because they are imagining hitting a massive homerun in a massive situation in front of tens of thousands of home town fans and millions of people watching on TV. i.e. that exact situation.

edit: yeah what DCameron said.

Dyson needs to understand that kids aren't playing Wiffle ball anymore because they see the sport as boring. They're inside playing Call of Duty or watching football. The league needs more exciting players like Bautista and Harper showing emotion and flipping bats, not less. That kind of stuff should be encouraged.

It's kind of a slipperly slope, though, isn't it? When can hitters do it? Pitchers? Fielders?

Hahah that's exactly right.

As said above, Dyson and Bud Norris forgot a long time ago that baseball is a game.

No-one cries about this kind of thing:

Whats the difference?
Why is this not disrespect to the guy who hit it 400+ feet but had his HR taken away?

Bautista is awesome. If there is ever a time for that kind of reaction after a HR, that was the time.

I picked up Bautista off the scrap heap on 6/16/2010. He's been a keeper ever since and a Teabagger for life.

What he gets up to off the field is none of my business.

Cain's look at the dugout after his check swing hit was pretty hilarious.
Makes me wonder when I see something like that if the guy was saying something before like "I'm going to hit one 500 feet off this guy for sure."

I may have to switch over to pulling for KC because they'd have home field advantage over Toronto in the ALCS.

True, but Houston has better starting pitching
