OMG, Seattle gets a hit with a man on second, CFer boots it for a bit and the runner doesn't score. Horrible read by the baserunner and he compounds it by looking back instead of to his 3d base coach. Austin up again.

Austin Jackson, clutch performer.

Watching here in L.A., so had the Angels broadcast. Announcers showed zero enthusiasm with how the game ended. I get that their team lost on a close play, but you'd think they'd be excited about the Wild Card being still up for grabs, especially since pushing these teams further benefits the Angels.

Angels second baseman should've gotten the sure out at first. Doubling up Jackson was extremely unlikely - as it played out.
Yeah, and still let the winning run score from third? Gotta go home there.

Game 162 is meaningful for the Pirates, Cardinals, Athletics and Mariners. Felix on the mound for Seattle, Wainwright on the hill for St. Louis, Gray taking the ball for Oakland and Pittsburgh has to face Cueto.

Baseball is so awesome.

Edit: As mentioned below, big implications tomorrow for KC and Detroit as well. Great Sunday lined up for seamheads everywhere.

But then they would have to tag Taylor before Miller scored.

Endorse!

Edit: And don't forget the AL Central.  Game 162 matters to the Tigers and Royals too, right?

He looked the guy back, and then flipped it to second. He didn't go to second immediately.

Edit: Just saw a replay, he might've bobbled it a bit actually - rather than looked the runner back.

Edit 2: But yeah, you have to go for the DP.

He made the right play, but he made a bad throw to second. If the throw was good, they get the DP.

If the #Royals, #Pirates & #Mariners win Sunday AND the #Tigers #Cardinals & #Athletics lose, Monday will be insane.

Scioscia said after the game that Green initially set up his feet to go home, and then last second went for the double play and that is why Jackson beat it out. That's why it looked a bit strange in real time.

Seeing that this is coming from the MLB PR department wouldn't you think they might expand on this just a bit since Sunday now belongs to the NFL?

Good lord.  I just checked and you're absolutely right -- that's the last tweet from last night, with NOTHING today.

How the hell does the MLB not have a "Playoff Machine" tool (like ESPN with the NFL)?

USA Today breaks down the possibilities: http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2014/09/28/mlb-final-day-of-regular-season-tiebreakers-one-game-playoffs/16381735/

Feel free to correct me, but I believe the circumstances are:

AL Central:
- If the Tigers win OR the Royals lose = Tigers win the AL Central, Royals host the AL Wild Card Game
- If the Tigers lose AND the Royals win = Game 163: KC @ DET tomorrow to determine

AL Wild Card:
- If the A's win OR the Mariners lose = A's win the 2nd Wild Card, Seattle plays golf
- If the A's lose AND the Mariners win = Game 163: OAK @ SEA tomorrow to determine

NL Central:
- If the Cardinals win OR the Pirates lose = Cardinals win the NL Central, Pirates host the NL Wild Card Game
- If the Cardinals lose AND the Pirates win = Game 163: PIT @ STL tomorrow to determine

Here are the games and times:

1:08pm ET -- MIN (Gibson) @ DET (Price)
1:10pm ET -- PIT (Cole) @ CIN (Cueto)
2:10pm ET -- KC (Ventura) @ CHW (Bassitt)
3:05pm ET -- OAK (Gray) @ TEX (TBD -- Martinez/Holland)
4:10pm ET -- LAA (Rasmus/bullpen) @ SEA (King Felix)
4:10pm ET -- STL (Wainwright) @ ARI (Collmenter)

As others have noted, with King Felix and Wainwright on the mound for the Mariners and Cardinals they are heavy favorites today.  Elsewhere, David Price (only 3-4, 3.97 ERA since the trade) starts Game 162 for the Tigers -- a win would go a long way toward redeeming him.  And the Pirates have to deal with Johnny Cueto, probably looking for a consolation prize after being deprived of the NL Cy Young hardware despite his insane season (19-9, 2.29 ERA, 235 Ks) because he made the mistake of pitching in the same league as Clayton Kershaw.

Baseball is just the best.

Edit: As for predictions... between facing Cueto and Wainwright going for the Cardinals, I don't think the Pirates are going to force Game 163.  As for SEA/OAK and DET/KC, however, I could absolutely see 163rd games being necessary.

Did they change the rules with the new format?

I know it used to be that if two teams were tied for the division but both were headed to the playoffs, then head to head was used for the seeding. This happened in 2005 with the Sox and Yankees. Both Detroit and KC have clinched spots in the postseason.

Yes, it has changed.  Now that it really matters whether you win the Division or the Wild Card (i.e., who gets tossed into a single-elimination playoff), they play a 163rd game.

What did he say about Jeter?

Pirates tied at 1-1 in the 6th.
Tigers up 1-0 in the top of the 6th, but Price is at 96 pitches.  Going to come down to whether their bullpen can hold a 1-run lead, which is fitting for their season.
Royals up 2-0 in the 2nd.

All is settled except the AL 2nd WC. Oakland is winning, which would solve that final riddle.
Yeah. A bit dull honestly but I'm not surprised.

Watch out for Gomes with the champagne. A's celebration starting awfully calmly compared to what I've seen, and with a Texas twang song playing in the background. What?

Hopefully, it's every bit the pitcher's duel it's expected to be. That's gonna be a fun game to watch.
