I think Isaac Coffey is going for Portland tomorrow, but he's not listed. If so, another pretty interesting slate of starters.

That Drohan vid reminds me of Casey Fossum. Not sure if that’s a compliment but Fossum did have a career.

It's an interesting question, right? Do you take Casey Fossum as the outcome for Shane Drohan right now if offered that choice.

& the answer is of course "yes". He pitched about 230 innings for the Red Sox over 3 seasons, providing 3.2 fWAR & then was a big part of a trade for one of the best players in baseball - Curt Schilling (the other guys they gave up were Brandon Lyon, Jorge de la Rosa & Michael Goss).

Of course, he only put up 1.9 fWAR in the next 6 seasons, but that's not really our problem anymore.

Absent the trade, though, I would decline that career for Drohan. Roll the dice.

I was perusing random drafts & some of DD's have been fine...but 2016 may be one of the worst drafts I've seen.

The only player from that draft who is still in the organization is Bobby Dalbec. & it's not like any of the rest of them went on to careers elsewhere.

2015 was also a giant yikes after Benny 7th overall.

That was of course Cherington.

So was '14 where I believe the only player to play for the Red Sox was 1st rounder Michael Chavis (#26).

DD did of course trade Kopech (Sale) & Beeks (Eovaldi) for reasonable returns.

Pretty sure the best player from our 2013 class was 26th rounder Mauricio Dubon who we just played a series against & who was traded for Travis Shaw.

& the only one to make it to the Red Sox was 9th rounder Kyle Martin who pitched 2.2 innings in 2017.

That was the Trey Ball #7 draft. Odd personal story about that...the draft occurred from June 6, 2013 to June 8, 2013. & me & my wife spent from June 6, 2013 to June 8, 2013 in the hospital for the birth of my oldest son (actually we stayed in the hospital until the 9th, but he was born on the 8th)...who we had decided months before that would be named Trey without any inkling that there was a prospect named Trey in the draft or the Red Sox might be considering drafting one. It's too bad he sucked at baseball or my 10 y/o could have a cool story about that, but such is life.

And I think this is the problem for many when analyzing prospects. For most prospects, Fossum is sort of a ceiling. On any list of top 30 prospects, if you have 10 Fossums that's a really strong group, especially if you've got 1 or 2 higher end guys as well.

Aha! It’s Kyle Martin who was a prospect for the Red Sox that continues to make me think Chris Martin was originally a Red Minor leaguer.

the 2010 draft was a tough one, with the best player maybe being Workman, until you get to the 31st rounder, who did not sign, and went on to a good current MLB career, including a decent year in Boston, Hunter Renfroe.

That's what I'm here for. Randomly solving problems I didn't know exist.

Drohan allowed a single & struck out a guy (slider) in a scoreless 1st.
