Just popping in to say that the return of the daily minor league threads is the best thing to happen on SoSH in a long time. Really brings me back to those glory days of ~2005. It also means we have something to hope on for the future! Thanks to all who make this thread happen on a daily basis.

Good bounce back from CJ Liu today. Like Dobbins yesterday, allowed a run in the 1st & then 0 more. A bit less efficient than Dobbins was so didn't make it 7 innings.

5 innings, 1 run on 2 hits & 2 walks with 7 strikeouts.

Wyatt Olds (#121) is in for the 6th up 3-1.

Just look at Portland’s roster that season and remember that the Sox were coming off their first title in 86 years and on their way to another playoff appearance that season. Life was gooood. Still is. But those were the glory days. Perennial playoff team + crazy good pipeline. Like current Dodgers or whatever. Only injuries prevented that team from going to the playoffs every year from 03-11. And beer / chicken.

I was a bit concerned when I scrolled down the roster (alphabetical) & saw nothing of too much note.

But then got hit with:

Lester
Papelbon
Pedroia
Hanley

I was definitely following the team, but wasn't as into the minors & wasn't around here.

That sustainable success is what they're building toward now & I think it kicks in next year.

Anibal Sanchez too. David Murphy. Brandon Moss. Craig Hansen. Delcarmen. Cla Meredith. I think that roster had a dozen guys or more who had a big league appearance, and like you said those guys with multiple all star appearances.

One last thought on 2005: it generated one of my favorite nicknames / user handles ever. Buzzkill Pauley. Because after Papelbon, Lester, and Anibal pitched in the rotation, it was a buzzkill on Pauley’s turn.

He allowed 4 runs on 4 hits & a walk. He did strike out both hitters he got out.

He was replaced by Dylan Spacke (#137) who got the last out of the inning.

Portland down 5-3.

Railin Perez allowed a walk & a hit in the 9th, but no runs & struck out 2 for his 2nd save.

Albert Feliz was 2-4 with a homer (6).

Enderso Lira was 1-3 with a double & a walk.

Jhostynxon was 0-1 with 2 walks, a HBP & a sac fly.

Luis Ravelo was 1-2 before being removed from the game with an injury.

Back issues are the reason he missed the first two months of the season and didn’t get in a game until June 23rd, definitely concerning. Kind of chalk it up to a lost year at this point and hope he can get healthy.
