Baseball America has our system 5th:

BA has the Red Sox’s farm system at No. 5. Behind them are the Pittsburgh Pirates (No. 4), Los Angeles Dodgers (No. 3), Milwaukee Brewers (No. 2) and Baltimore Orioles (No. 1).
A couple other quotes:

The depth of the Red Sox system is strong, as the emergence of several pitching prospects — most notably Luis Perales, Wikelman Gonzalez and Yordanny Monegro — has changed the look of the system in just a few short months.
The Red Sox are stocked with up-the-middle talent, as all of their top 10 positional prospects play in the middle infield, center field or catcher. This current cache of prospect depth is likely Chaim Bloom’s greatest achievement during his time in Boston.

Hmm...Angel Bastardo on this list is surprising.

08/15/23 Greenville Drive transferred OF Kier Meredith to the Development List.
08/15/23 Greenville Drive transferred RHP Angel Bastardo to the Development List.
08/15/23 Greenville Drive transferred SS Karson Simas to the Development List.
But since his 6 inning shutout with 9 strikeouts followed by his 7 inning shutout with 14 strikeouts, he has 4 starts...

15.2 innings, 19 earned runs, 21 hits, 10 walks, 20 strikeouts.

That's a 10.91 ERA.

He's thrown 103.1 innings this year, after a previous high of 82 last year, so they may just feel like it's a good time to give him a break, especially since they've already clinched the playoffs.

Side note on Song - the SoxProspects guys seemed to be indicating on their Podcast they would put him in the 50s when they do their update next month.

Seems low to me, buuut they mostly seem to rank crappy high minors guys who will never get more than a cup of coffee in the majors in that range rather than guys with actual upside.

Random point of beef with SoxProspects:

#41 Stephen Scott (26 y/o) - 143 PAs with Worcester, .295/.385/.664, 1.049 OPS, 42/57 bb/k
#42 Niko Kavadas (24 y/o) - 87 PAs with Worcester, .185/.368/.308, .676 OPS, 18/29 bb/k

How are these 2 next to each other? Both are slow (although Scott has Niko beat 6 steals to 2 this season across both levels), stocky, left handed hitting bat 1st guys - but one can actually maybe play catcher or left field. Scott is 17 months older, but has an an actual potential role on a MLB team.

Idk. Just seems crazy.

Maybe Penrod is the Bastardo replacement for now.

Listed at 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, Penrod operates with a three-pitch mix that consists of a power fastball that has been clocked at 98 mph this year as well as a “filthy” cutter and changeup, according to Idaho-based Earn It Sports.
Penrod, who does not turn 27 until next June, will wear the No. 40 with the Drive. While the southpaw has prior experience as a reliever, it appears as though he will be joining the Drive’s starting rotation.

Walter allowed a homer in the top of the 1st.

Blizzard lined out to start the bottom of the 1st...& then WooSox manager Chad Tracy got ejected prior to C Note's 1st at bat (a fly out)...

Well...Roman didn't strike out in his 1st AB at least? Groundouts for him & Romero, strikeout for Castro.

Nvm, they changed this & said Ravelo was thrown out at 2nd. Run still happened, though.

Rafaela walked his second AB, 5 pitches and he didn’t swing at any of them. This is the first time in AAA he’s walked in b2b games.
