Cooper should be a clear upgrade with the bat for Valdez, Dalbec and Reyes, but he's really here to hold down 1B - so Dalbec.

Smith - too early to tell. If he hits, he'll probably stay for a bit as a 1B/DH.

Short - probably a combo; competent Dalbec level defense but at 3B/SS/2B. And he won't hit any worse than Dalbec, Valdez or Reyes have thusfar. But he may be the first off the active roster when R.Gonzalez is healthy again.
