Frat just to understand, if we are relatively happy with the S3, the S5 should be similar but better camera and battery life?
Yes.

Better battery life and camera, plus the phone will be more responsive and faster and have a bigger screen.

Going from S3 -> S5 is a very worthwhile upgrade and if you like Samsung and the S3, then the S5 will be great for you.

The S3 was far better than the 1, but I am now at the end of my S3 life, i suspect. With the last bunch of app update the phone is running like it is powered by one of those 150 year old tortoises.

I am thinking of just bouncing to the S5 unless someone has a compelling reason why I should not. I truly love my S3 and if it wasn't taking a full minute sometimes to pull up my keyboard, or to send texts, I would just keep it.
Have you restarted it recently, or fully powered it off then on again? I was having the same issues with the new updates, but because I rarely turn the phone off, I hadn't realized that a simple restart would make my S3 run smoothly again. I was ready to get a new phone, but now I'm planning on sticking with this one for a while (mostly because I'm using my unlimited data as a hotspot with FoxFi.)

What he said. The S5 is quite a bit bigger than the S3, so try it in your hands. The Droid Turbo is a bit of an adjustment for me, and I've got fairly large hands.

So what did you move to if you're selling your S4?
I just got a Note 4 because I wanted something bigger. Now that the Note and Note Edge are out, the Galaxy 6 will be next up. Personally I wasn't impressed by the 5, but it's definitely an upgrade over the 3.

If there's anybody who's still rocking an S3 and would like some ZeroLemon batteries, chargers, etc, on the cheap, hit me up. I'd rather keep in in the family.

What are the best music players? I've used Winamp for a long time but now that it's basically gone it isn't working right with the latest updates. I've read that Doubletwist and Shuttle are pretty good.

I've always liked PowerAMP.  GoneMAD is also good.  But I'm pretty old school in what I ask from a music player (e.g., I still use file folders and not ID3 tags for organization).

It actually restarts itself on a regular basis, but I will try it again. Thanks.  Can you not use the new Sg5 as a hotspot? What is FoxFi? I actually have a verizon MiFi that i got for the interns at the office (because if they connect to the county's wifi they are blocked from every conceivable social media tool) so I can always take that with me if I'm traveling, but i do love using PDAnet on an as-needed basis.  You know, normally I love upgrading, but I am finding myself settling more and more for what I know. This is what Virginia has done to me.

Is this something I would want (the batteries?) Thanks, everyone, for your input and help in what is clearly a monumental decision for me.

I'm sure you can use pretty much any Android phone as a hotspot these days (including the S5), but I'm on a grandfathered Verizon unlimited data plan and at this point I don't want to a) lose the unlimited data, because I'm using that as my sole source of internet right now, or b) go through all the complicated steps of upgrading my phone and keeping the plan because I'm perfectly happy with my S3 right now (battery isn't a big deal because I don't use it at all at work, screen size is perfect for me, etc).  FoxFi is probably just a competitor of PDAnet, just a third-party hotspot app that cost $8.

I was originally thinking that the new iPhones would finally be reason enough to get me to upgrade my phone, but they didn't blow me away.  I'll probably stick with my S3 for about another year, and at that point I'll have a better idea about where I'll be living and what kind of phone/plan I want, and then I'll make the switch.

Hope you figure out what's wrong with your phone!

Moto with estimated delivery date of Dec 2. So I'm assuming the it'll be out for delivery around the same time.

Any update on yours?  Over at XDA there is a thread of very impatient people whining about not having their phone days before it was promised...it seems Moto orders are shipping out more than Play orders.  Mine has always said "leaves warehouse on 11/21" so we'll see what happens tonight/tomorrow.

My Nexus 5 just got the Android 5.0 update. I'm downloading now. My body is ready.

Let me know if you notice any difference in battery life.  I've read some reports that it's made a huge positive difference, but that hasn't happened with me.  Seems to be worse, if anything.

Looking at my order page on the moto website still has it scheduled to be delivered on Dec 2. So I'm assuming the date it leaves the warehouse is about the same as yours given the holiday.

Update on my Moto G LTE StraightTalk experience on AT&T network: I finally got a legit high-speed LTE connection. Speed was around 12 MB/sec near the Bourne Bridge. Otherwise, my use in MA, NY, CT, and PA has never had a LTE connection faster than about 3 MB/sec.

Question to AT&T (or Cricket) customers with 4G LTE: how often are you getting 4G LTE connections faster than 3 MB/sec.?

Addendum: I hit about 19 MB/sec in Stoughton today. Apparently the backbone along Route 24 is the best around.

So far no...based on the thread on XDA, there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to what's getting shipped when.  I'm not going to be terribly concerned about it until I'm passed the promised ship date.
I just got notified that mine has shipped. ETA Wednesday 10:30AM.

My contract ran up on my iPhone 5 and I'm considering switching to android but I'm scared because I have a Mac and keep all my shit on it.  Anything good to read up on for someone switching?  Good ways to import contacts and/or music from iTunes?  Was looking at the Nexus 6 and Droid Turbo.

Does anyone with the Nexus 6 have any reports on the battery life?  Pretty bummed about the battery size especially given how huge the device is.  Seems like the Turbo has a bigger battery with a much smaller screen size, too bad for me since I'd prefer stock android.

IDK about the 6 yet, but I'll tell you that battery saver mode in Lollipop is pretty awesome.  I was stuck without a charger at the Pats game yesterday with my N5 and turned on battery saver when it was at 21% around 2:00 PM.  By the time I arrived home around 7, it was at 5%..and that's with some light surfing, texting/hangouts, a few pictures, and being connected to my bluetooth for the entire drive home.

Hoping the Droid Turbo isn't far behind.
Only Verizon. Sadly, my X is up to date on Kit Kat.

So yeah, the AT&T SIM card from my S3 is too big for the slot in the Nexus 6. What a nut punch.

I believe that you have a micro-sim and want a nano-sim.  They can actually be cut.

It's definitely a big phone, but to be honest, it's not offensively big like some of the reviews made it out to be. In fact, I didn't even flinch when I took it out of the box. I keep going back and forth between it and my S3 and the S3 already looks cramped and small.

The phone itself is great, but Android 5.0 is amazing. I'm so glad I went with the unlocked version and have the pure Google experience.

Let us know what you think of the battery when you've had some time with it.  Trying to decide whether or not to wait for the Verizon one or just get the Turbo - but I guess either would be a helluva upgrade on my iPhone 5.

That shouldn't be a big deal.  I had the same issue with an M8 and an S3.  I just went to the store and they gave me a new SIM and moved the phone number over.  It was free and pretty painless.

This was on Verizon, FYI

I'm probably not the right guy to answer this, in coming from an S3. The battery on that phone was atrocious, so anything is going to seem awesome in comparison.

Having said that, the battery has been good. The biggest improvement, though, seems to be how the OS handles open apps. My battery isn't getting sucked dry by applications that are open in the background.

I will say, the screen real estate is awesome.

Pulled the trigger on new Samsung S5 to replace my S3.   Spent a couple hours last night removing as much of the touchwhiz crap as I could and so far I've been very pleased.  Since I don't see myself returning it so the Spigen Tough Armor Case, plus invisibleSHIELD on its way from amazon, but I'm finding some conflicting reports about wireless charging.  Should I go for a new official wireless charging back or does one of the self-installed ones work just about the same.  I did hear some talk about the self-installed ones raising the back slightly which has me concerned about removing the water resistance if everything is not flush but nothing confirming that.  Also any experience with wireless charging through a case?  I just don't want to get $50+ into a wireless charging solution to decide I can't use it.
