Bit of a lineup shakeup, Verdugo up to 4th and Rizzo down to 6th. Hurry back Jasson Dominguez!

That at bat shows how much of a mess Judge is. He gets gifted two balls to run it to 3-1 and then swings at a ball a foot outside and then strikes out on a pitch off the plate.

He needs a day off.

Jeff Nelson is so bad at his job. Here is another example so hilarious I had to document it in full...

NY is up 7-1 in the 5th and Rodon has from the start pretty obviously been trying the Verlander approach of building FB velocity as he goes in a game, he gave up a bunch of well hit balls early on but most were caught, and he is clearly getting stronger. The count is 2-2 and as Rodon prepares to pitch, Nelson is in the midst of a monologue about Rodon...

Nelson: '...you're used to striking out 10-12 guys in a game and now all of a sudden, that's cut back and he's become more of a pitcher...'

It is at this point that the batter wildly swings over the top of a slider for strike 3.

Nelson, inexplicably undeterred by reality: ', not getting swing and misses.'

Beat.

Michael Kay: 'Well, that's a swing and a miss, Rodon's 5th K.'

Rodon's final line was 6 2 1 1 1 8 on 93 pitches, and he was up to 97 at the end (94 early on).

Please, YES, spare us more of this guy. Is he just bored in retirement and paying you to do some games?

Nice play by Gleyber up the middle, what a boost him waking up would be.

He's painful to listen to.

I wonder what the absolute worst Yankees broadcast team ever would be. John Flaherty and Jeff Nelson would have to be at or near the top of the list, right?

Actually those two did a series together recently, and somewhat counterintuitively they are not so bad together. I chalk this up to 1) both of them having to talk half as much and 2) ballplayers always seem to say fewer stupider things when there are other players in the booth also. The only time A-Rod was tolerable at all in the booth was when both Cone and O'Neill were there too, then he was actually good.
