Sure seems like we are standing pat….
It’s going to be really tough to get a deal done. If Sweeney can pull one off the great, if not I can’t fault him for this one. It’s almost impossible to add with no cap space and no draft picks.

Yeah I don't understand why all season people can't seem to wrap their heads around this. We've known there is zero cap($57.5k currently) space since the start of the season. The team traded away their 1st, 2nd and 3rd round picks this year and their 2nd and 4th rounders in 2025 before the season started. So no cap space, no capital, and no blue chip prospects. Sure, Sweeney might pull something off by sending Jake out(Ullmark is not going to fetch fair value in season), but the team doesn't really have the ammo for a big upgrade. I just don't understand how anyone in these parts has expected anything remotely impactful to happen at this deadline since the puck dropped opening night outside of a major shakeup

I seem to recall Sweeney saying earlier in the season that he really didn’t want to trade away any draft picks. I’m ok with not doing anything, but I would guess they add a depth defenseman before the deadline and not much else.

100%
If given the truth serum on October 1, I'd guess that Sweeney would have said that it's much more likely the team would be terrible than in contention for a top seed. (Not that either possibility was high; just that bottoming out was far more likely than topping out(?).

Wait nothing in here about Guentzel going to Carolina? Or am I missing something?

Carolina has a lot of UFAs going into next season. I’m really surprised that they’re gambling on Kuznetsov considering he has a year left at $3.9 after the 50% retained.

They actually cleared money of next seasons cap. Bunting went to Pittsburgh in the Guentzel deal and was on the books for $4.5 million next season. They have ~$30 million to re-sign Jarvis, Drury and Necas. Seems fine to me.

I was looking at Skjei, Pesce, DeAngelo, and Raanta being UFA.

5 days in Vegas is 2 too many in my humble opinion.
I strongly endorse this sentiment.
It's 3.5 too many. In Friday night, out Sunday morning is all I can handle at this point.
Absolutely. Same with New Orleans. Two days 3 nights and to the airport.
I wholeheartedly agree as well. Unfortunately when there's a work conference and you're mandated to be there, you don't really have a choice.

I was extremely well behaved (I was in bed before 10 the first 3 nights), but the dehydration and dry air just ruins me no matter how much water I drink.

Did you have a roommate?

I actually much prefer being there for work (which I have only done 3-4 times). It forces me to be an adult, disallows me from drinking at breakfast and lunch, and usually just focuses me on having a great dinner, playing a little blackjack, and going to bed at 10p like you mentioned.

Haha no, but 2 companies ago we had to have roommates on trips as well. Thankfully I had friends I roomed with, so it worked out, but man that sucked.

Yes I agree, this is like my 8th time going for work. I've never been for personal reasons. This was the most behaved I've been and it honestly wasn't bad. Past trips in my younger days I've been an idiot and tried to burn the candle at both ends and that didn't work at all.

Man you guys are old, I'll be celebrating my 50th in Vegas in a few weeks, first trip with the wife.

I've been going on a guys trip to Vegas 12yrs running with the same core group of 4-6 guys every year. The group arrives between Wed/Thur/Fri and leave Mon/Tues. We go late Sept/Early Oct so have access to pools plus plenty of gambling/sports book options. Generally have to have one day to recharge but we go pretty hard otherwise. Just sleep in, it is Vegas.

Toffoli went to WPG at 50% retained for a 2025 2nd and 2024 3rd.

Arizona traded Jason Zucker to Nashville for a 6th. No salary retention, hence the light cost.

He's got half the league on his no-trade so hard to tell. LA has been rumored. I know they are a major market but he may not want to move his young family cross country.

6 years and $8.137 AAV left on the Hertl contract. Vegas has $5.5 in LTIR space. They can move Alec Martinez ($5.25 million) to LTIR or they need to send ~$3 million back to San Jose.

Would love to know what that Kings trade was. There was some Dubois chatter on the Xitter machine but feels difficult cap wise.

I wonder what the minor piece of non trade news is? I don’t think that a Swayman extension would be minor, so I doubt that’s it.

Between here and everywhere.
The new market inefficiency - pile up on oft injured players and game the LTIR system. Fuck that franchise.
Nah. If I were a fan of that team, I’d love it. Doing anything and everything to win is good, actually.

My annoyance is that the Bruins don’t try the same.
