$30m jump in the salary cap this year. Probably not of immediate relevance to the Pats.

This probably got a lot easier for them with the higher cap, so we're already seeing that effect. Makes it likely they bring back Jonah Williams too?
I would say it’s a sign they’re pessimistic about an extension. Most teams would (correctly, IMO) trade him but the Bengals have always held an unreasonably high standard of their players. As for Williams, he’ll almost certainly price himself out. While it’s a great OT draft, it’s a pretty bad FA market especially if more teams view Onwenu as a guard. I’d imagine the Bengals go the cheap FA route there (Jermaine Eluemunor?) and/or a pick.

What price would you consider too high for him?

I don't watch him consistently, but a quick look at his stats say that his rookie year was fine - not great, but above average.

His 3 seasons since have seemingly ranged from below average to horrendous. Lead the league in sacks allowed 2 seasons ago (12). Gave up 8 sacks this season (tied for 52nd of 58 tackles with at least 50% snaps.) His pass blocking efficiency - essentially the amount of pressures he gives up relative to snap count - was average this year, but bottom of the league for the two years prior. He grades poorly as a run blocker in 3 of the past 4 seasons.

The free agent market is definitely thin, but he doesn't seem like the kind of guy people will be throwing money at.

PFF projects him at 4/64 with 40M guaranteed.

I don't think he'll get a McGlinchey deal for example, but he's going to get paid.

There's a lot of context here though. His pressure to sack rate was incredibly high in 2022 - he got knocked around in the opener by Highsmith and had a bad game against Garrett (get in line) in Cleveland but I thought he was fine otherwise. He's also had as hard a setup as you can ask for - he's played against Garrett/Watt 2x a year plus whatever exotic stuff Mike Macdonald came up with and lived in a pass-heavy shotgun offense with a QB that likes to extend plays and takes more sacks as a result. I think he'll look a lot better in more of a traditional offense and will almost certainly face lesser competition. The lack of athleticism will always cap his ceiling, but he's technically sound and moving into what I would think is the prime age for tackles.

Happy to help. Durability was also an issue early in his career as he missed his entire rookie season and the last six games of his second year (plus he got hurt in the WC game in '22 and missed the last two) but he's played every regular season game the last three years. I think the Bengals want to swing a little higher given the offense they run (and other big commitments), but you could do a lot worse.

Technically he’s correct. If once someone becomes a “Bill” they are a Bill “forever,” forever is a long time. So when the Bills finally win a Super Bowl centuries after we’re all dead, his prediction will have come true.

They already have Freiermuth and Washington
on the one hand... yeah. On the other... Jonnu is more dynamic than Freiermuth and Washington can't run routes, separate or really do anything that a 3rd string tackle can't.... liked him in the draft last year but he looks very much like a blocking only TE and that's generally how PIT used him, he didn't run many routes even in games Freirmuth missed.

Wow. Expected that to be a big nothing of an incident. If true, while not career ending, it's certainly bizarre and falls in line with the other anger problems he's shown.

Tyreek gonna Tyreek. Broke a plus-model's leg while running football drills with her.

This is the money quote in the article:
The Dolphins receiver messaged Hall on Instagram a day after she registered, wanting to “meet up and get to know her,” the court documents say.

The two continued to exchange messages, the documents show, including one in which Hill says he has been “known to be a good stepdad.”
Yeah...

Jason Kelce press conference today at 1pm. I don't think you call a press conference if you're returning, so likely his retirement announcement. I really hope I'm wrong...

I thought for sure he was becoming a Chief.
The chiefs don’t have the money.

I’m not sure why the money is surprising. #1 receivers are extremely valuable in today’s NFL and don’t hit free agency. The number of people in the media and here who thought he was going somewhere on a discounted deal because he’s 30 years old was confusing.

The cost for Evans isn’t surprising at all. Wouldn’t be surprising if Jefferson or Chase get close to or surpass 30M AAV

Curious to see where guys like Ridley, Pittman and Higgins end up in terms of AAV

basically the equivalent of a 2/43 2 years ago in terms of cap percentage. cap went up close to 25% in the last 2 years. salaries are going to explode
Seems like NFL media should pick a base year or something and then always report out things as a percentage of the cap and how it corresponds to the base year. The dollar figure is kind of meaningless without taking a few other steps.
