Maybe we should like... wait & see if these people are good at football before burying the front office.

But it doesn't seem great lol

Field thinks he might be able to play LT. Any chance they plan on Onwenu moving to LT and letting Wallace stay at RT?

I need to qualify that Riddick likes basically every pick made.

People may not outright shit on the pick but look at the rankings and everyone thinks this is a reach
At the end of the day, that doesn't really matter. I liked Kiran a lot better, but it's not like these tier3 tackles are easy to tell apart. As CD noted, the rating systems are all over the place. I've seen Rosengarten rated in mid tier 2 and the bottom of tier 3, for example.

I think somebody messed up their draft board and they started picking guys from the wrong round.

Wallace is a good player. Where he got drafted won’t matter in a few years. Very very interested to see what they do at 103 and 110.

Can't believe we still don't have a decent LT. So who protects Brady...I mean Brissett and Maye now? Okorafor?
It’s possible they think he can play LT. Evaluations of the OL guys in this range will be all over the place in terms of where they can play, in what system, etc.

I kind of doubt it, Wallace is probably more of a pass protector than Onwenu. I would guess Wallace starts as the swing tackle with Okorafor as the LT unless Wallace crushes it in camp.

He's pretty positive on everyone
Yup, check my next post. After the 1st round, SVP asked him for his least favorite pick and he literally couldn’t answer.

I think he wants to be an NFL GM one day and is acutely aware of not criticizing anyone too much

Maybe he was playing RT because Jets guy that got picked eleven was LT and he wasn’t as good as him. At this point, people don’t really know, we are just degenerates

Will there ever be a year that someone likes one of the Pats's draft picks?
Will they ever have a year where they don't make a massive reach? Why can't we try the Eagles or KC approach just once. They have pretty good success.

Right but it’s all about quality control.

I’m not going to freak out about the pick but look at any respected analyst and it was a reach.

There are obvious holes. What seems different about this Pats draft is that they're addressing the obvious holes with guys that are from deep pools in those areas. It's kind of best case scenario honestly.

Of course we reserve the right to whine about the specific choices, but it's almost unanimous that WR, QB, OT were the three biggest positions of need. And so far, so good.

I'm a little disappointed that they didn't slide up and get a better tackle, but maybe we're wrong. At least it wasn't a fucking long snapper.

Jesus really? Almost everyone loved the Maye pick. Come on. I know we all love to play the victim but let’s be at least somewhat honest

Eh, it feels like the Pats' war room is showing its inexperience. A run on WRs at R1/R2, and we reach (a bit) for Polk. Same deal in R2/R3 with OTs, and we end up with Wallace. How about some boldness?

Edit: Including teams jumping ahead of us to take WRs and OTs.

Pats didn't do anything stupid with pick #3, got a tough WR with great hands in the 2nd, and worst case they shored up the OL in the 3rd. There's no way they were coming out of this draft having solved LT, WR and QB. Expectations people. This is pretty good.

What is the massive reach? Wallace isn't, he was a 3rd/4th round guy most places, and once you get past like 50 the error bars on this stuff are pretty huge... and the league thinks differently.

As to KC.... why would you want to draft like KC? They have had 3 pretty terrible drafts out of the last 4? If they didn't have Mahomes they'd be a mess.

PHI.... meh, they go for the flashy picks, but honestly it's often more name than game, their defense was a mess last year and their best players are mostly trades or drafted years ago.

I want to draft like GB... take good players you believe in, don't worry about what other people think, develop and re-sign.

The weak return on the trade back also probably made them hesitant to trade up later.

With Belichick you took the bitter with the sweet. He was a mad genius who made bold calls that sometimes were great and sometimes crashed and burned, but I loved it because that was the same confidence that made him not call time out with time running down in the Super Bowl.

When he left I kind of contented myself with the idea that maybe slow, steady and conventional might be worth a try. This is gamethread hysteria three picks in to a new regime, I get that, but I really do not think anyone in 2024 can outsmart the rest of the league.

I'll never get sick of people getting upset about the Pats picking a player a round earlier than the mock drafts have him going, and then also getting upset when a player they like comes off the board right before the Pats pick. They've addressed their three biggest positions of need with players who they obviously rated highly and think they can fit well into the team on and off the field. I can't ask for much more than that.

When was the last time the Pats drafted exactly for need with 3 straight picks to start a draft?

Right, like, the OL we just re-signed to a big deal was a late rounder. Nobody knows anything.

They have a looooot of needs so odds were good they’d be drafting for them. I think the bigger point is that they took guys at super-premium positions. It’s encouraging, this wasn’t the time to take a TE or DT or S.

Why is he doing a press conference while the draft is happening? Are they just closing down shop for the night?

He was asked that, no, he just jumped on and took like 4 or 5 questions then jumped off, said they are still monitoring how things fall and could jump in if they think it makes sense.
