he worked out today. Did he sign? HmmmmApparently the Patriots signed Nick Folk?
Punts shmunts:I was thinking the most fun "oh, those Pats" would be just eschewing the kicker. Go for two every time, go on fourth down. Let the punter kickoff. Like Carter High School in Friday Night Lights!
can’t wait to see his SB ring on Pawn Stars in 2027Another ex jet trash kicker. Hopefully this one will work out
So we should expect to see Pat Leahy signed by week 12?Another ex jet trash kicker. Hopefully this one will work out
Isaiah Wynn spilled into the locker room with the Patriots’ other offensive linemen late Monday afternoon, seemingly fresh out of meeting or film session.
It was an encouraging sign for the left tackle, who has been on injured reserve since suffering turf toe in Week 2 against the Dolphins.
One player who won’t be helping this year is tackle Yodny Cajuste. The third-round pick out of West Virginia is likely to remain on the reserve/NFI list.
“He’s probably not ready to do anything and probably won’t be until next year,’’ Scarnecchia said.
Flutie probably called *somebody* about the gig.So we should expect to see Pat Leahy signed by week 12?
It’s not like Nugent did either. BB didn’t trust him outside of 40 yards...Folk does not exactly inspire confidence
This was funny until we cut Nugent for, seemingly, similar logic. He had a bad game last week = washed up
Nugent was dicey on like 40% of his kicks for the Pats. This was funny until we cut Nugent for, seemingly, similar logic.
Looks like Kevin Faulk, 2011. He's a year older than Brady. When was the last time Brady played with someone older than him?
It’s not like there’s a Justin Tucker sitting out there. I don’t think any of the guys they bring in will inspire much confidence.Folk does not exactly inspire confidence
Hey now, don't let your mouth write checks the rest of you will regret cashing.Because there is no service I won't provide for SOSH, here are ...
I understand. There is a reason these guys are available at this point. It’s not like there’s a Justin Tucker sitting out there. I don’t think any of the guys they bring in will inspire much confidence.
Good point. No service related to superficial Arizona Hotshot stat research, I should have said.Hey now, don't let your mouth write checks the rest of you will regret cashing.
Nick just do your job
Don't Folk up
Today was the first day that he could be waived for the Patriots to try to get their cap money back. So, no, I don't think anyone was expecting it to happen this quickly. What’s the deal with Gordon? Weren’t we expecting him to be waived by now?
Fuck yaaaaPer Jim McBride of the Globe, Isaiah Wynn has returned to practice. Therefore, everyone else on IR is done for the season. Wynn is now eligible to return against Dallas.
It's funny to go back now and see Dante's and Belichick's from Monday and Tuesday. Like they haven't known exactly what would happen.Per Jim McBride of the Globe, Isaiah Wynn has returned to practice. Therefore, everyone else on IR is done for the season. Well, actually more like jetsam if you want to be specific...I'd prefer Bryant but it's probably all a bunch of flotsam. we have two months to figure out someone.
Here's the current waiver order. I think the order is fixed as of today, even if the Cardinals lose tonight.View: https://twitter.com/AdamSchefter/status/1189989068198875136

It is going to be really interesting to see if he gets claimed. Seems like a no brainer that he will, but you never know until you know, I guess. The stakes are that if he gets claimed, the Patriots get about $1.1 million in cap relief. If you're a potential claiming team, the cap cost is pretty low and there's at least some chance that he'll get you a comp pick the following year. So, it would surprise me if he clears waivers. I think the real question is whether he falls as far as some of the Patriots' rivals. For example, I cannot see him getting past the Bills or Ravens.
I think he would be a great fit in Arizona if he gets that far. Let him play a bit with Fitz, give Murray another option, and give the Cardinals an 8 week test drive.

Difference seems to be in the way they treat teams that have not played the same number of games. Just based on common sense, Yates' methodology makes more sense.Field Yates has a different claiming order:
Current NFL waiver claim priority: 1. MIA 2. CIN 3. WAS 4. ATL 5. NYJ 6. NYG 7. DEN 8. TB 9. CLE 10. LAC 11. CHI 12. PIT 13. OAK 14. ARI 15. TEN 16. JAC 17. PHI 18. DET 19. CAR 20. LAR 21. DAL 22. HOU 23. KC 24. BUF 25. BAL 26. IND 27. MIN 28. SEA 29. GB 30. NO 31. NE 32. SF
I thought, and this could be a different circumstance, but because Gordon was cut, the Dolphins wouldn't get a comp pick.In terms of rebuilding a team, where draft picks are currency - doesn't it make sense that Miami buys his salary for the remainder of the year? Flores knows him, if he sticks, great but if he leaves they get a compensation pick. Cash for a draft pick... they have the cap room.
(No this isn't my original thought - I'm just asking for the opinion of those in the thread.)
Miami didn't cut him. The Patriots won't get a comp pick for Gordon because they cut him.I thought, and this could be a different circumstance, but because Gordon was cut, the Dolphins wouldn't get a comp pick.
It actually is fascinating watching NFL kickers just fall apart this year. Their performance through the first 8 weeks is the worst we've seen since 2002, though the average distance of the attempts is up around 1.5 yards per kick since then. But it's bad - 80.4% this year compared to 84.9% last year over the same time period, and because we're through half the season, they've blown through any confidence intervals I've examined to see if this is fluky. It isn't. Kickers this year are not good.It feels like right now is a good time to start learning how to kick. It’s amazing how few NFL caliber kickers there are out there.

I understand that. I meant I thought there was talk that if a player was cut and signed by another team that the signing team would not get the comp pick when he left as a free agent. But I could be mangling that.Miami didn't cut him. The Patriots won't get a comp pick for Gordon because they cut him.
Signing a cut player doesn't count as a compensatory FA added for the signing team. But they can still get a comp pick when that player leaves. Revis is an example; since TB cut him, he didn't cost the Pats in the compensatory formula, but when he left, they got a comp pick for him.I understand that. I meant I thought there was talk that if a player was cut and signed by another team that the signing team would not get the comp pick when he left as a free agent. But I could be mangling that.
Thanks for putting numbers to compare to the eye test. I thought that it might just be confirmation bias (or recency bias) since it was happening to us Pats fans so much, but it is league-wide apparently. It actually is fascinating watching NFL kickers just fall apart this year. From 50+ this year, kickers are 40/75, 53.3%. Last year at this time they were 52/78, 66.7%. That difference is really the most meaningful one. If NFL kickers were making 50+ yard kicks at the same rate as last year, we're looking at a 20% chance that this is due to random luck, rather than just a 3% chance that it's because of luck. Kickers have been horrible from distance. They still have been worse from under 40 yards - 92.3% this year compared to 95.9% in 2018, but correcting for that discrepancy would only result in an extra 5 kicks being made, which keeps us at just a 7% chance kickers are worse because of random luck. It is the suck from distance that has mattered this year. Thanks for putting numbers to compare to the eye test. I thought that it might just be confirmation bias (or recency bias) since it was happening to us Pats fans so much, but it is league-wide apparently.
If it's not too much trouble, can you parse those stats at all, maybe FG's less than 40, 40-50, more than 50, and all PATs?
