Once again, this series is over. The Yankees haven't lost a lead or a game yet in these playoffs if you don't count what happened at the start and end of this game.please let that wake them up
ARod told me that was Carlos Beltran.Yes Fox, Carlos Correa is really damn good. That play in the field was sick, the HR was beastly and the styling out of the box was earned.
"Yankees Suck!"
Because you might only score 2 runs the rest of the game and lose in the 11th inning? Paxton was imploding with Bregman coming up. Game could have gotten ugly right there. This is why you can’t pull starters in the 3rd inning
Also could have gotten out of the jam like he’s done many times in the regular season. Even if he goes 3 or 4, it’s less outs for the pen to get.Because you might only score 2 runs the rest of the game and lose in the 11th inning? Paxton was imploding with Bregman coming up. Not mention that the Astros can only afford to lose twice more in the series, while the Yankees just need to win three moreOnce again, this series is over. The Yankees haven't lost a lead or a game yet in these playoffs if you don't count what happened at the start and end of this game.
It's a bad dye job. He needed to leave a little gray in there. It looks like he just slapped some shoe polish on his head.ARod looks insane. Is he growing his hair out or something?
Right, but they got out of the inning and the pen only gave up 1 run in 7.2 innings before the walk off. Paxton could have given up 3 runs and then it doesn't matter how many outs the pen has to get. This loss had nothing to do with pulling Paxton in the 3rd. Boone was clearly prepared to do this coming into the game as he also had Green warming in the 2nd I believe. Rested pen with a day off coming, I don't see the issue. Also could have gotten out of the jam like he’s done many times in the regular season. It worked tonight, but it is not a recipe for consistent success. Boone has had a short leash for starters in the postseason except for Tanaka in G1. With 3 games in 3 days he’s going to have to let starters go longer to save the pen. Paxton in my opinion was not as bad tonight as everyone makes it out to be. I honestly think he had a good shot to get out of that jam with his swing and miss stuff.Right, but they got out of the inning and the pen only gave up 1 run in 7.2 innings before the walk off. Clearly, he need “the hair coloring that Tim Wakefield uses.”It's a bad dye job. He needed to leave a little gray in there. It looks like he just slapped some shoe polish on his head.
Of course it's not something he'd do every game. It takes the right circumstances. If this were Game 3 he likely doesn't do this as there's 2 more games on b2b nights coming. Paxton was giving up hard contact (three balls over 104, including the Bregman missile in the 2nd that nearly got out) and only got 6 whiffs in 51 pitches while walking 2 hitters. I don't see what makes you think he had a good shot vs Bregman after Bregman jumped all over him in the 2nd and rarely whiffs. Not to mention he absolutely destroys lefties. It worked tonight, but it is not a recipe for consistent success. Boone has had a short leash for starters in the postseason except for Tanaka in G1. Britton was a little surprising. But the key to the game may have been the Astros taking tough pitches and hitting foul balls against Chapman even though he looked nasty. Even if you think Chapman can go two in the abstract, once he gets to 25 pitches it gets hard to bring him in to the 10th when you know you still need at least six outs,Astros vs. James Paxton: 4 for 9
Astros vs. Yankees relievers: 2 for 27 before the Correa walkoff
Pulling Paxton was the right move, not trying for an inning or two more from Britton/Chapman was the mistake. Or if you know you’re going to do that, you have to stick with earlier guys who look good longer, like Green or Kahnle.
I can only applaud Boone’s attempt to bury them last night. One move went sideways — the Astros were able to run Chapman’s pitch count to 25 or so in one inning. I think Boone at that point got scared.Boone pulling Paxton was a win-now move that nearly worked. The mfy bullpen was fantastic, as it has been, and with a day off tomorrow, it shouldn't have ramifications. But if he does something similar in the upcoming games with a similar result, it could certainly affect them later in the series. For now, though, it's hard to criticize.
No, it was because he was showboating! Stick with the narrativeSorry if it has already been mentioned, but the reason Correra pointed his finger in the air for the entire time around the bases was because he promised a kid in the hospital he would:

These young players are disrespecting the game with their showboating and celebrating. I didn't like Correa's antics at all and thought it was worse than Batista. The video of Henderson leaping with joy while running to first after his ALCS homer was a spontaneous reaction and still gives me chills. Correa cupping his hand to his ear seemed choreographed. These young players are disrespecting the game with their showboating and celebrating. Even if Correa wasn't doing this in tribute to the kid, he earned that. It was a big HR in a huge spot and he played incredibly last night. Sports are to be enjoyed and celebrated.
Young players now talk and gesticulate when they do something good and my generation was taught to "act like you've been there before" whatever that means. We were also taught a bunch of other backwards or flat out wrong BS too and now we know better. Standing in the way of progress isn't being old school. Its just being ignorant and controlling.
He said he was so overcome by the moment he didn't even remember what he did, I personally thought it was awesome and it was my team that he just beat. Let the kids showboat!!Correa cupping his hand to his ear seemed choreographed.
He did get thrown at and punched the following season. And IMO Bautista's homer then bat flip given that absolutely insane game/situation was probably the peak baseball moment of the past decade.
Yes, which was quite stupid. He did get thrown at and punched the following season.
Fair enough but you realize you are fighting something you cannot control. Kids celebrate everything now in youth sports and my view is that if it enhances their experience its great. My best coaches growing up were less concerned with what the other team was doing versus what we were doing and the one piece of ageless wisdom they invoked was that if you don't like what someone is doing against you in a game, you stop them. Athletes typically don't celebrate failure.I didn't like Correa's antics at all and thought it was worse than Batista. I'm a grumpy old fart that doesn't care for a lot of showboating but in that game & at that moment it was awesome. It was an exclamation point in an insane game. And IMO Bautista's homer then bat flip given that absolutely insane game/situation was probably the peak baseball moment of the past decade.
This is a great point; no sense in fighting it, it's out of anyones control who's opposed to it.Fair enough but you realize you are fighting something you cannot control. I'm also a grumpy old fart and yes, reactions to success on the field have changed forever.
