Day stuff it. Ovah.

Not sure why Noren changed strategy on 18. Went par-birdie-birdie hitting hitting driver on 18 3 Times yesterday. The 4th time through yesterday he dropped to 3 wood.
He also made birdie with the 3 wood too though. I think the cooling air yesterday left him with an awkward distance in with driver so he switched over to 3 wood. I agree that it probably made sense to go back to driver today, but tough to fault him for it I think. He just didn't make his shot while Day stuffed a wedge to win it.

He birdied it twice through lay ups, so it just seemed weird that he was taking distance off his tee shot at then still going for it. Even if it was an uncomfortable distance to go for it after hitting driver, he still would’ve had layup options.

I don’t know. The strategy just seemed odd.

True, although he hit a bad drive into the bunker on 17 before switching over to 3 wood so maybe there was something in his driver swing that didn't feel right? I'd love to get his insight into his thought process behind the switch too.

I'm guessing he decided to switch it up after missing the 18th fairway on what I think was the previous playoff hole on 18 and being forced to lay up. I think he (correctly) assumed he could reach 18 in two with either driver or 3-wood, and 3-wood gave him a better chance of hitting the fairway. It looked like he hit his second shot today cleanly, just maybe mis-judged how far it would travel in the cooler air. The decision to go for it from 255 with Day clearly being blocked out and forced to lay-up was a pretty aggressive one.

The Paris of the 80s
I thought this interview with Tiger about his equipment and clubs was fascinating. He goes into a ton of detail about his thought process and approach with clubs.

https://www.pgatour.com/long-form/2018/01/23/tiger-woods-equipment-taylormade-testing-q-and-a.html
Thanks for posting that—it’s very interesting. It looks like Tiger plays some of the weakest lofted irons out there because he hasn’t really changed them since the 80s (new sets but custom made virtually identical design every time he changes). A 50 degree pitching wedge is certainly up there.

Andy Brickley's potty mouth
Suzann Petterson telling the world what we already knew about Trump. This story could be written about Judge Smails.

http://www.golf.com/tour-news/2018/01/30/president-trump-cheats-hell-golf-course-according-suzann-pettersen

"He cheats like hell," the 15-time LPGA Tour winner said. "So I don't quite know how he is in business. They say that if you cheat at golf, you cheat at business." Pettersen also said the president must pay his caddies well, as drives that are headed for the woods always ends up back in the fairway. She also mentioned his fondness for gimmes.

just watching some old clips of previous WM Opens and come to the conclusion that the most useless, but best job to have at the tournament is the old guy who is holding the Quiet Please sign on the 16th tee....

Spieth needs a birdie on 9 (his 18th) to make the cut. Just missed a 6 footer for birdie on 8. His putting has been horrendous the last 2 days.

And he inexplicably leaves his birdie putt well short to miss the cut. Brutal.

191,400 attendance on a Friday. Wild. I’ve got to get out there at some point.

And Phil closes with 4 straight birdies.

Random thought- Is there a reason they can’t play a Ryder Cup at this place? Can hold monster crowds obviously, and the closing holes would be awesome for match play.

Is it because it's two hours behind the east coast and seven (or more) behind the Euro Zone? Because that is a very good question.

I am all on board with this. It’s a great idea actually.

Ryder Cup always in September, right? I’d imagine the average temp of 95 or so would be the biggest deterrent to having the Cup played there. Would be awesome though

It’s moving day for real today. The course is setup to go low and the golfers are obliging. JT is -5 through 5 holes.

Gonna be a fun day.

Excellent leaderboard too. JT, Rickie, DeChambeau, Berger, Rahm, Phil, Bubba all on the first page.

JT makes it 6 birdies in a row to start the day. Not too soon to start the 59 watch.

yeah, this sucks...one thing if this game was in overtime, but there was 10 minutes left at the time golf was scheduled to begin

It is brutal. Golf channel went to a movie. They couldn’t stay on for an extra half hour?
I have no doubt that is the contract the Networks have negotiated with them. I don't know why they networks made that decision , how it benefits them to force people to stop watching for a half hour, But I am quite sure it is not a golf channel choice

Yeah, I assume CBS wants the golf fans to give them a boost at the end of the basketball game, and then the basketball fans to linger into the golf broadcast. The half hour (yesterday was actually only supposed to be 15 min) black period always sucks, but the basketball games usually only run 5-10 minutes over. Which, whatever. Yesterday was pretty egregious though. It was over an hour between the golf channel ending and CBS starting. There has to be a way to let GC stay with coverage for an extra 20-30 minutes when it is obvious the network is going to be way late. I don’t think “just watch online!” is a good solution.

Already angry about the inevitable delay in getting to the golf coverage due to a game between bad-to-mediocre Big Ten teams.

Golf channel missed this by about 2 minutes. Would love to see a video..

Not a great view of it. But I love Poulter. May what he does at the end of the clip is just awesome. I still think he'd be top 5 on the PGA tour to grab a beer with

Any idea why they are doing threesomes and split tees throughout the weekend too?

Good news: 6 min left in the basketball game as we go dark.

Bad news: Only a 1 point game
So about 15 minutes until it’s over, followed by a commercial break, cut to studio to tell us that the golf coverage is coming up, Masters promo, more commercials, Nantz narrating highlights of earlier action, b-roll of the big crowd and KRAZY antics at 16. Then finally live golf at... 4:15?

Meant 3:15 of course.

Modern day college basketball is awful and makes this gap so much more frustrating. Since I tuned in when there were 38 seconds on the clock, there have been three timeouts, three commercial breaks, two shot attempts, and 28 seconds of play. This is unwatchable.

Now Golf Channel is showing the CBS coverage, leaving unanswered the question of why they haven’t been doing this all along when the basketball runs long.
