Geno is playing like he wants to and is trying to get cut.

Skins throw a bomb for a td

McCoy 13/16 2TDs; looking good

Redskins 14, Jets 2 (halftime): If the Jets' goal was to keep it plain and lull regular-season opponents into a false sense of security, they succeeded in the first half. They were awful on both sides of the ball. The Ryan Fitzpatrick-led offense failed to cross midfield. Geno Smith threw a horrible interceptions. The tight ends had the yips, as Jace Amaro dropped two passes and Kellen Davis lost a fumble. The defense surrendered 159 passing yards and two touchdowns to Colt McCoy. We're talking Colt McCoy! Bad night for the Jets.

Don't laugh; but I am seriously wondering if Hackenburg is going to get cut. Maybe Phantom IR'd and released after this season.

Yeah, I think Geno's getting cut. That broken jaw might have essentially ended his career, I was really curious to see what he could do last year with the improved receiving corps.

Why not cut Geno first?
I don't think it's an either/or situation there, you do only really "need" 2 QBs. The only thing that would give me pause is the list of FA QB's is so scary right now. Might be better to hold on to Geno for a bit longer if you're not totally convinced in Petty.

Geno Smith has essentially ended Geno Smith's career. Not with a broken jaw, but with an accuracy of a two-thumbed archer.

Has anyone see the Jets' last game (except luckiestman)? It was brutal with a rusty Fitzy and a typical Geno "5-yards off" potshots.

Right, but we'll never know what would have happened if he had started the season last year as he was supposed to. Maybe he would have still sucked, but I was optimistic at the time at least.

That's typical Geno, isn't it? A flash here and there, a good half here and there, thinking perhaps he'll turn it around.

Then you hear all the little stories about how his play recognition hasn't improved since year 1, accuracy not much better, pouting about not being the starter (LOL), etc. Believe me, I've been Geno's #1 fan and hope TGG keeps him on the roster for at least one more year.

Game 1 of the sinister 6 games is today and if the phrase cess pool didn't exist you would have to create it to describe any and all Jets message boards. So I'll talk to myself here.

What I'm looking for on O. Can we block anyone. Clady looked good in preseason games but I'm concerned about the right side of the line.

On D. I'm looking for Williams and Wilkerson to dominate the line but the line play will have to wait until speed racer gets back to see if we get all 3 of them out there at the same time to see how that works.

I didn't pay much attention to the secondary in preseason so that's a wait and see

Not sure what Bowles is going to do with the LBs but I'm looking forward to it. I like the players.

Year 2 post Rex still feels like being in remission from a horrible disease so feel free to tell me how much the Jets, myself and everything sucks. I'm just happy to be alive.

Secondary was awful, yikes. Forte looked a lot better than I expected, but you have to win that game with the schedule coming up.

Secondary play + leaving 4 easy points out there + not getting in the end zone from inside the 5 twice were what absolutely killed us

How many touches did Forte have? I know he has always been a workhorse but I'd think they'd want to keep him healthy / fresh for the whole season

A lot but Powell looks good for them too so they shouldn't have to force feed Forte. He was getting so many touches because they were so successful

AJ Green when covered by Revis yesterday: 10 targets, 10 receptions, 152 yards, 1 TD, 158.3 QB rating for Dalton.

Ye gods.

One of the plays was blown and one was an amazing catch by Green with Revis in great position. Not in panic mode yet. But it isn't like year 3 Revis. The secondary play was a big problem though.

I mean, getting torched by AJ Green is no great shame, the guy's a beast. And I was baffled by how much single coverage they gave Green; Revis isn't going to be able to shut a guy like that down by himself.

But still, the stats were shocking.

Green could have had even more yards. He took himself out of bounds twice where he just kind of tripped. The Jets needed to grab that W. I'm just hoping Cincy is really good because the Jets played them even.

I'd go as far to say as the Jets outplayed them. They controlled time of possession and the running game really wore the Bengals down in the second half. The Jets likely win if the chip shot isn't blocked to go up 10-0 and they really likely win if they're able to punch it in there and go up 14-0. Having Burfict especially to stop the run and Eifert would've helped, but the Jets were also missing Richardson. They might have had 10 sacks if he was in - that's what happens when you have a beastly DL, no second option that can consistently separate and a center where you may as well be playing 10 on 11.

That's the crux of the issue. Not saying Revis is toast, but you can't coach like its 2010, leave him on an island, and just erase the other team's best receiver. He was a very effective player for the Patriots, but even in 2014 he wasn't really that player anymore and he's two years older now. Leaving him on an island with AJ Green all day is borderline criminal.

In fairness to Revis, the long TD was supposed to be Cover 3. Marcus Williams just completely vacated the deep middle for some reason.

The point isn't that Revis isn't really good or that he could be fairly expected to cover up for that blown coverage. The point is that in the past he was so great that he could be expected to cover up for that blown coverage and to shut down even top receivers on his "island." No shame that he's not all that anymore, but it's definitely notable. And weird that the Jets seemed to treat as if he still was that incomparably great.

Green's numbers would still be excellent without that TD, but they did attempt to give Revis help on his biggest play. That's all I was saying.

It's also worth noting that the Pats generally had Revis matched up 1-on-1 with the opponents' number 2 receiver, while they doubled the #1. The Jets had Revis 1-on-1 with the Bengals' number 1 guy, which is probably asking too much from a 31 year old DB.

Bizarro Jets: that defense gives up more big plays than you would think - they are looking very suspect in the secondary, Revis included, sure, but not just Revis. They will have to reckon with better QBs than Taylor and better offenses than Buffalo's.

But the offense: wow. Fitzgerald to Decker and Marshall worked well last year, but with Enunwa - a quasi-TE who seems like the real deal - and Forte - who looks five years younger - they are scary. Blame Rexy if you want, but 24/34 for 374 is no joke. As per ESPN, he completed 10 passes of 15+ yards, the third-most of any QB in the last 10 years, and was 14/15 on passes of 10-30 yards. For a guy with a reputation as a noodle-arm, that's amazing. Add a 100-yard, 3 TD game from Forte, and that's a juggernaut, notwithstanding a fumble for a defensive TD and a terrible drop of a bomb by Marshall, who was otherwise 6/101.

Going to be lots of 41-38 games for the Jets this year methinks.

La Mancha.
After getting burned by the track star on the first drive, I don't recall hearing Revis' name at all. Was that because he played well after that (admittedly really tough) play?

I didn't watch most of the game but Forte only averaged 3.3 YPC so I wouldn't say he's quite rejuvenated yet. From afar, last night was more of a volume play.

Here are his 30 carries (because I am at the car dealership and bored)
1: 0
2: 3
3: 1
4: 3
5: 4
6: 0
7: 7
8: -2
9: 2
10: 6
11: 3
12: 3
13: 0
14: 1
15: 8
16: 2
17: -2
18: 10
19: 11
20: 3 (TD)
21: 1
22: 1
23: 4
24: 7
25: 6
26: 12 (TD)
27: 2
28: 3
29: 0

Somewhere I missed a carry.

But of the 29 runs:
13 went for 2 yards or less
19 went for 3 yards or less
21 went for 4 yards or less

3 of his carries gained 33 yards; the other 27 gained 67. If anything I am happy that the Jets ran him 30 times. I hope they do that every week and beat the crap out of him.

You need some context for this; I don't know whether this is good or bad or not.

Forte looked very good in week 1, presumably some of the reason that the Jets could throw for almost 400 yards was that BUF made it a priority to stop him.

I saw some of the game. Forte looked quick and effective going between the tackles, which was never his forte. 3TDs. I owned him several times in fantasy and he irked the shit out of me because he was awful in goal line situations. He was more likely tro score on a 25 yard catch out of the backfield than a 2 yard run. Not last night though.

Revis got big pay days all over the place. Sam Bradford is the champ based on production for the dollar. But Revis is the modern day champ of beating 32 gangsters at their own game -- and effing good for him.

We'll always have Hard Knocks -- when he bent 3 New York wise guys -- Woody, Tannenbaum and Rex -- over a table.
