The only reason to discuss Collins is that you were grading the 2015 draft, and had not included him there. I think your grading on Gregory was a bit harsh too, but he certainly did not choose professional football over a career in theoretical physics.
I guess it is not clear to me that any of the RB options you describe were stone cold locks - I mean, everyone is a lock or bust in hindsight, sure - but Randle and McFadden SEEMED to be a pretty solid corps going into last season and I am not sure that any of the picks you cite were clearly superior to those two.
Yes, I clearly want the Cowboys to lose, but I also try to look pretty objectively at what is done well and what is not done well for each team (except for the Patriots, who I hate so much that I just say bad things about constantly with absolutely no objective thinking. I mean, why bother, right?). Looking at the Cowboy O-line, and looking at the talent the Cowboys have going into the season, if you have faith in Romo then I don't see how you can hammer their long term plan. Sitting in this same seat 16 months ago it isn't clear to me that RB was a draft need for the Cowboys. Sitting in the seat 4 months ago I think I would agree with you that the primary Cowboy desires at #4 would have been:
- Corner
- Romo replacement
- Trade down to get multiple picks
- RB
But with that said, the 2nd option was pretty much gone once the Eagles trade up, and the market for the 3rd was apparently very weak. Should they have chosen Ramsey? I think so. But I don't think that Elliot was that much worse, and in truth he seems to me to be a pick much less likely to be a bust than Ramsey.
