Just saw that story (about Rory's injury) myself and was coming to post it.

BBC saying that his title defense at the British Open is "in doubt," but given the severity of his injury, is there even a question about the fact that he is done for a very long time?

Unless he hits the deer antler spray very hard, no, there is no question he's done for a while.

Oh man, that's awful.  The PGA has been outstanding this season even when Rory hasn't been contending, but to lose ANY time in what is shaping up to be an awesome Rory/Jordan run sucks for fans of the sport.

So if not Rory, and assuming Spieth is the favorite, who else do you like? I have my eye on Sergio - his form has been solid, the Open is his best major, and he has played pretty well at the Old Course over the years - T5 in 2005, T14 in 2010. Maybe this is the year he overcomes his nerves on Sunday.

Rory:

After much consideration, I have decided not to play in the Open Championship at St. Andrews. I’m taking a long term view of this injury and, although rehab is progressing well, I want to come back to tournament play when I feel 100% healthy and 100% competitive. Thank you for all your support and best wishes. I hope to be back on the course as soon as I can.... In the mean time, come on Andy!!!

That was one of the most improbably eagles you'll see.   He hits a bad tee shot,  had to lay up down the adjacent fairway, and then totally thought he hit a terrible shot with the wedge to have it go in.  Now has a one shot lead, after being in major danger of missing the cut after only shooting -1 or something on day one.  Incredible stuff.

Looks like we're headed for another white knuckle finish. Tom Gillis is on 18 with a 1-shot lead over Zach Johnson, Danny Lee and Spieth. Spieth's been spinning his wheels all day, but just chipped in on 16 to pull within one.

Edit: Gillis posts -20. ZJ on 18 needing a birdie to tie. Spieth and Lee found the fairway on 17, each still one back. Smells like a playoff, or Spieth/Lee outright win.

ZJ lips out on 18, so he's done. Lee and Spieth both birdie 17 to tie Gillis. Both head to 18. Spieth bombs one, Lee loses one to the right.

Only two in the playoff this week?  BORING.

I love Jordan, but I don't have any issue with Gillis winning this either.

Ho hum, another amazing finish and playoff. Rooting for Jordan here. Just because he's crushing it and I want to keep seeing him crush it.

Spieth's 2015 is insane:

T35, 1, T7, cut, T7, T4, T17, 1*, 2*, 1, T11, T17, cut, T2, T30, T3, 1 and now either 1 or 2.

*= playoff. He also won one down in Australia. Insane.

And two major wins, of course. Completely insane.

Looks like Spieth will outlast Dobie Gillis. Spieth is becoming a pretty impressive closer. 21 years old, too.(have you heard?) Really incredible.

Next week will be awesome, and I actually get to be home in New England for it to watch with my dad on his 65th birthday.

My father passed away shortly after his 65th birthday (and 10 months after retirement), and there is nothing I wouldn't give to be able to sit down with him this week and watch the British.  Enjoy every minute of it that you can, because you just never know...

Not sure if anyone is watching the Barbasol, but Will Wilcox just nailed a 60-footer on the 18th to secure his tour card for next season.  Been following the kid a lot this season and he's for real.

For those unfamiliar with Will's story, here's a good recap: http://www.pgatour.com/news/2015/07/15/will-wilcox-redemption-barbasol.html

Definitely worth rooting for.

Robert Allenby has got to have a drug problem. In another bizarre episode, he got into it with his caddie and fired him mid-round.
if you believe his side of the story, the caddie seemed to be the one who kinda came unhinged. I tend to think his telling is accurate since a fan volunteered to hop on his bag. Still, weirdness follows this guy. I'm sure a dead hooker will magically appear in his hotel room next.

I don't see how the fan offering to take over several holes after the primary incident lends any credence to his story. Besides his absolutely nonsensical story about getting rolled, this guy is a notorious asshole. And he's now made 4 cuts in 17 events this year, so it's pretty rich that he's blaming his caddie.

And his history with caddies is well documented.

He plays well with his teammates, too.

The ESPN story noted that Middlemo is the fourth caddy to walk off the job mid-round with Allenby.

Being such an asshole that a professional caddie would put down the bag and simply walk off is incredible.  That Allenby has had this happen to him 4 fucking times with different caddies tells you that the problem is 100% with him.

The ESPN story also noted that a "source" walking with the group confirmed the caddie's version of events.

David Hearn has a 1 shot lead through 15 in Canada. Trying to be the first Canadian to win the Canadian Open since like 1953. Has to fend off some fire power- Jason Day and Jim Furyk are 1 back, Bubba is 2 back. 16 and 18 are par 5's, so fireworks are possible.

White knuckle finish time. We're on 18. Day is 1-shot ahead of Bubba and Hearn. Day drove it into the bunker and had to lay-up.

Hearn let the round get away on the front leaving several putts short or he could've been at -20

Rickie with a hole in one to finish his round, and Tiger with another missed 5 footer on hole #1 to start with a bogey like every round for the past year.

Tiger has himself in contention. -4 today through 16, -7 for the tournament. 2 back of the leader, Schneiderjans.

35 foot birdie attempt on 8 drops. -8.
