View: https://twitter.com/tylermilliken_/status/1685327101543448576The Red Sox are the only team that doesn’t require a 40 man spot for Song.
That being said I’d be shocked if a bottom tier team doesn’t add him very quickly.

I mean, Bernardino is 31, and is just breaking out. Crazier things have happened.I dunno, it certainly doesn’t seem like he has anywhere close to the stuff needed to pitch in in the bigs now. So maybe a terrible team picks him up, hides him for the rest of the year, gets him a year in the minors next year, and then hopes to have him as a contributing major leaguer in 2025, at which point he is already 28? I am skeptical. This guy has barely pitched in the last 4-5 years, he needs lots of innings.
Also, is it really a “great story” if he makes it back to the Sox? Guessing Noah may disagree.
I mean, this seems pretty obvious, and was a big reason why he slid in the draft to begin with. It's super impressive that after such a layoff, he would still be relevant enough to be ranked in the top 50 of the SP list. I think the days of him being a starting prospect are likely over. Give him a full regular off-season and a normalish year next year and he could be an interesting reliever.
The layoff is what screwed him, not Dombrowsi (though I don't know if the Rulve 5 helped).
Pretty sure they can send them anywhere they want within their organization.Maybe I'm jumping the gun here, but if Song is returned to the Sox, where should we place him? Can the Sox put him in Fort Myers, along with the rest of the 2023 draft class? My thinking is teams could not scout him or evaluate him further before the next Rule V draft.
It's a cool story with the US Navy being involved. If the military angle wasn't there, he wouldn't even be on "the radar".I mean, this seems pretty obvious, and was a big reason why he slid in the draft to begin with.
His actual playing availability was completely unknown, and unfortunately for Noah Song the baseball player, he lost almost the entirety of his career where most young baseball players are developing.
Bottom line is he’s 26. He’s an extreme long shot to make and stick to any big league roster based on this alone. 26 year old rookies aren’t typically a thing and his stuff isn’t that electric.
Wouldn't that be on the SONAR?It's a cool story with the US Navy being involved. If the military angle wasn't there, he wouldn't even be on "the radar".
I'm glad someone caught that!!!Wouldn't that be on the SONAR?
As a kid, that movie scared the $h!t outa me!
And many adults too! (I was a kid too and it really scared me).As a kid, that movie scared the $h!t outa me!
Won't catch me in the Ocean ever again.....As a kid, that movie scared the $h!t outa me!
No. That's a 1-way file.So we can remove “Losing Song to DD for Nothing” from the Bloom is Incompetent file?
Do we have a "DD is just a troll now" file going? So we can remove “Losing Song to DD for Nothing” from the Bloom is Incompetent file?
I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for Pete Abraham’s apology. So we can remove “Losing Song to DD for Nothing” from the Bloom is Incompetent file?
I'm sure it can be edited to: "Song got screwed up spending eight months in the Phillies system"So we can remove “Losing Song to DD for Nothing” from the Bloom is Incompetent file?
San Diego might wish they could give Groome back for half his pay at this pointNow if the Sox could only get Groome and Ward back…. or Braiser (ducks)
All joking aside. What a difference Eflin would make if he signed with Tampa North.
Dougie's going deep (sea) tonight! To honor his Naval past, he should get a Police Boat escort to Fenway.
Ward's per9 pitching line with the Natinals reads like a slot machine -- 7-7-7 (H-BB-K)Now if the Sox could only get Groome and Ward back…. or Braiser (ducks)
Cool - now let's get his FB back up to 99Jen McCaffery confirms: "According to a source, the Red Sox have reacquired Noah Song after he cleared waivers. The team is still determining what level in the farm system he’ll be sent to.” link
Are there examples of players who didn’t pitch at all for four years and were successful? Maybe Matt Bush, Ron Mahay? It has to be really difficult to miss that much development time, especially at the beginning of your career. If we can get away from the celebrations: what do people actually foresee for Song's baseball future? His development has been unusual to put it mildly, and he's no kid any more. He's 26 and was getting absolutely torched in both AA and AAA this year, although obviously both were in very small samples.
Do folks think he'll be able to figure something out?
You obviously are better at slots than most people….Ward's per9 pitching line with the Natinals reads like a slot machine -- 7-7-7 (H-BB-K)
Bush, for sure. Mahay came up as an OFer and then went back to the minors to learn to pitch, I don't think he had a gap in pitching professionally. Are there examples of players who didn’t pitch at all for four years and were successful? The thread really should be renamed to "Noah's Arc" since this has developed into quite the drama.I was thinking he could arrive by boat with two of every animal.
I think he's got a better shot at it with the regular minor league path, than he did with this year's clusterfuck. If we can get away from the celebrations: what do people actually foresee for Song's baseball future? Extreme example, but Jim Morris.Bush, for sure. Mahay came up as an OFer and then went back to the minors to learn to pitch, I don't think he had a gap in pitching professionally.
Losing out on your age 23-26 seasons is going to be insanely difficult to overcome.
AAA is a bit of a surprise to me, thought they'd start him off lower. Wonder what the reasoning was for that level.
The soxprospects guys said they'd rank him somewhere in the 40s. They're not the final arbiter of such things, but they've got a decent handle on it IMO and that would seemingly put him in the "longshot but you never know" category, which sounds about right. If we can get away from the celebrations: what do people actually foresee for Song's baseball future? Dan Bard too, although of course for entirely different reasons.Extreme example, but Jim Morris.
There is a chance that they will be losing 3 pitchers quite soon and not all will be replaced internally. Maybe its that simple?AAA is a bit of a surprise to me, thought they'd start him off lower. Wonder what the reasoning was for that level.

Both good examples.Dan Bard too, although of course for entirely different reasons.
The last active "replacement player."Geez, Mahay ended up with a 14 year career as a pitcher, with more than 500 games. Mamas let your boys grow up to be southpaws.
