that was for a trade, he got cut, so he'd presumably be coming here for the minimum or not much more.Didn't think we had enough space under the cap bit I guess we have almost $4M

Tune in to the next week's game thread to find out!what's to complain about here?
Collins not playing for DET had little to do with performance and a lot to do with making sure he didn't get hurt before he could be traded or released as they moved on to younger players in their rebuild. He wasn't what they hoped for, but he was better than what they have. When you have the opportunity to bring in a 32-year-old linebacker who could only crack the gameday lineup for the worst team in the NFL twice this season you just can't pass up that up.
That was the first go-round. He played pretty well in 2019 on his second tour, at least for the first half of the year along with the rest of the DTune in to the next week's game thread to find out!
Also, didn't this guy get scorched on his way out of town for being a serial free-lancer? Hopefully knowing the system actually has some utility this go-round.
Judon's been good, and Bentley has been better this year than some posters claim. Uche has been a bit invisible lately, which is a disappointment. Winovich has not followed through on his preseason progress, and the rest have been absolute drek.I guess I see the alternative as someone even worse - whether that's the corpse of Hightower or the other non-bentley slop who has been playing LB. maybe others have seen more from that group thsu far than I have
Right---i was imagining Collins is separate from Judon/Uche who are primarily edge rushers. So to me, he's upgrading the 'rest' which I agree has been awful thus far when Bentley is out. It might not play out that way but is why I see little downside here.Judon's been good, and Bentley has been better this year than some posters claim. Uche has been a bit invisible lately, which is a disappointment. Winovich has not followed through on his preseason progress, and the rest have been absolute drek.
Well, it was a trade versus a release and there's a six-year age difference in age when the players were acquired and Van Noy was playing 62% of the snaps in Detroit versus a guy who wasn't playing in 50% of the games and Detroit went 9-7 in 2016 versus the 2021 version which might win a game, but besides that...Edit: they probably should have never made trades for guys like KVN who also couldn't play for the Lions! Your posts in this thread are off-base.
Collins played and started both games before the team decided to seek a trade and sat him down to avoid injury.Well, it was a trade versus a release and there's a six-year age difference in age when the players were acquired and Van Noy was playing 62% of the snaps in Detroit versus a guy who wasn't playing in 50% of the games and Detroit went 9-7 in 2016 versus the 2021 version which might win a game, but besides that...
We have like 100 examples over the last 20 years of guys who didn't play or contribute for other teams come to the Pats and have a pretty big impact. Just because Collins wasn't playing doesn't mean he can't play.Well, it was a trade versus a release and there's a six-year age difference in age when the players were acquired and Van Noy was playing 62% of the snaps in Detroit versus a guy who wasn't playing in 50% of the games and Detroit went 9-7 in 2016 versus the 2021 version which might win a game, but besides that...
Nobody thinks this is some kind of gamechanging acquisition, but who should they have acquired instead? ‘A guy like a KVN in 2016’ isn’t a real response. Plus, that kind of situation doesn’t regularly present itself; heck, the KVN acquisition was lauded in part because teams generally don’t stumble on young, good, cost controlled players mid season that their current team is willing to trade.Well, it was a trade versus a release and there's a six-year age difference in age when the players were acquired and Van Noy was playing 62% of the snaps in Detroit versus a guy who wasn't playing in 50% of the games and Detroit went 9-7 in 2016 versus the 2021 version which might win a game, but besides that...
Fair enough.Collins played and started both games before the team decided to seek a trade and sat him down to avoid injury.
Also, every bad team has good players.
Edit- looked it up, he had the highest snap percentage among their linebackers through 2 weeks before they agreed he would be traded or released and told him to stop reporting.
Well, you're cherry-picking part of my answer and leaving out the real world actually available guy I suggested. I'm open to hearing why he couldn't or shouldn't have been brought in.‘A guy like a KVN in 2016’ isn’t a real response
Akeem Ayers is 32 years old TODAY. Same age as Collins TODAY and he hasn't taken a snap since 2017 and was 25 when acquired. So no, that example sucks too and so does the played-out 12122??!!1 thing that's always sucked.Edit: is this a better example? Akeem Ayers was inactive for 4 of the first 6 games for the 2-14 2014 Titans. Why would the Pats ever trade for him?!!?!?211111
Fair, but so does your "you just can't pass that up" line.So no, that example sucks too and so does the played-out 12122??!!1 thing that's always sucked.
better example: Tom Brady split snaps with Drew Henson. Why did BB draft him???We have like 100 examples over the last 20 years of guys who didn't play or contribute for other teams come to the Pats and have a pretty big impact. Just because Collins wasn't playing doesn't mean he can't play.

Insert pic of Belichick drinking orange juiceCollins has had an interesting career. He has made all of his good plays with the Patriots, and has made all of his money from the Browns and Lions.
Wouldn't it be "The Return, Part II" ? His 3rd stint, but his second return...The Collins signing is now official per his agent.

Reminds me of a cousin who has 3 children with the same woman. Two before they were married and one after they were divorced.Collins has had an interesting career. He has made all of his good plays with the Patriots, and has made all of his money from the Browns and Lions.
