It was about halfway between science fiction and fantasy.I believe the only guy in baseball history who has struck out 27 in a game (Bristol, Appalachian League) in 1952 was Ron Necciai, but he was an American.

Speaking of pitchers who have struck out 27 batters in a single game, high-school phenom Paul Pettit did it in 12 innings, according to this article at sabr.org. Pettit was featured in the latest episode of the Only A Game podcast, which is often a good listen.
