Speaking of school vacation week, whatever happened to starting weekday games in April at 6pm? They were doing it for a couple years, ostensibly for the benefit of the kids watching in the park and at home, but they haven't done it once so far this season. Personally, I prefer 6pm starts to 7pm (though I understand why they typically start at 7).Makes sense...school vacation week!
"Weirdest Goddamn bullpen I've ever thrown."Thanks. It had slipped my mind.
It is on MLB Network as well.1:10 make up game vs. the Indians today.
The Mets hosted the Rockies (who were also traveling from Baltimore) in the afternoon to start a series a few weeks ago. That's the only one I can think of.I would love to see a list of (scheduled) day games that follow a night game where one team has to travel. I can't imagine there are that many. Seems crazy that this was allowed at all.
I think the reason they couldn't move the start time back today was because the Lions are playing at Ford Field at 7:30. The stadiums are right across the street from each other and share parking facilities.I know we've bitched in the game thread, but it's insane that they didn't allow for this game to be moved back a couple hours.
It's this and probably only this. All the suggestions that it is about sticking it to the Red Sox or Dombrowski and gamesmanship and all that is just media-driven, click-bait bull shit.I think the reason they couldn't move the start time back today was because the Lions are playing at Ford Field at 7:30. This is more likely and I don't know why the story focuses only on the Tigers side of things. Seems like with the Lions game situation, the more reasonable approach would have been shifting the game yesterday to a 4pm or a 1pm start. Though I 100% understand why the Orioles would want to do the Red Sox no favors in the heat of a pennant race.I think the reason Baltimore didn't move yesterday's game to the afternoon is because Buck hates us.
But the Tigers schedule was set long before the NFL preseason schedule. So it may make sense today not to move the game from 1:00 to 7:00, but the real question is why it was scheduled at 1:00 in the first place.I think the reason they couldn't move the start time back today was because the Lions are playing at Ford Field at 7:30. As was mentioned a couple of times in yesterday's game thread, the Tigers have a popular Thursday afternoon game promotion that covers most, if not all, Thursday home games and they would all start at 1:00. At least going forward, every Thursday home game for the Tigers is at 1:00. I checked BB-ref and there has been only one Thursday night game at home this season. But the Tigers schedule was set long before the NFL preseason schedule. Read the Tomase blog post, every time the Tigers have played on the road on Wednesday dating back to 2012, whenever they have played a home game the next day it has been at 7pmAs was mentioned a couple of times in yesterday's game thread, the Tigers have a popular Thursday afternoon game promotion that covers most, if not all, Thursday home games and they would all start at 1:00. Not necessarily. The Tigers schedule was announced long before the NFL schedule was, but that doesn't mean the Lions hadn't already set their preseason dates. The NFL doesn't schedule the preseason, the individual teams do (at least in terms of selecting opponents) so theoretically they could have this planned out years in advance. But the Tigers schedule was set long before the NFL preseason schedule. The point is that when a 1pm start isn't convenient to the Tigers they don't do itThey played at home last night.
How exactly does Tomase reach the 'obvious' conclusion that this was a middle finger to DD? Tomase is garbage and I honestly can't believe he has a job in this town after the Spygate crap.
Ross didn't really tire himself out yesterday. Are any bullpen reinforcements flying down from Pawtucket to Tampa? Or is this going to be the Pomeranz-Barnes Show no matter what?
He pitched Tuesday, too.Ross didn't really tire himself out yesterday.
8 pitches Tuesday, 5 pitches yesterday. He's ready to walk a batter or two today. He pitched Tuesday, too.
One of pluses in yesterday's pain was Kimbrel's excellence.Kimbrel only threw 12 pitches so he should be available
He warmed up on Monday (though didn't come in) and then pitched both Tuesday and Wednesday. No way do I want to see him throwing for a fourth consecutive day.Kimbrel only threw 12 pitches so he should be available
yes, this is a team that seems to find ways to lose...what is their record in 1 run games, like 0-26 I would assume? well, hope they turn things around today so I don't have to feel badly for having started this thread in the first place. The Sox seem to be godawful in getaway games. So this should be pretty....not fun.
