Rex Jr. is walking around the Clemson campus with a paper bag over his head.
I read Troy Brown's new book (hat tip to Mike Reiss) and one thing I learned is that the guy who blew his lane on the Howard kick return was Troy's replacement since he was out hurt for the game. Says it still haunts him to this day because he knows he would have made that tackle and not blown his spot, and who knows what would have happened. Interesting fact I never knew. And Vinatieri was held on Howard's return. See at 20 seconds in in this video. Pisses me off to this day that wasn't flagged.
Yes it was.Was it Hassan Graham (#81) that replaced him that game? Goddamn.
True, but forgetting Reggie White's all time great performance toward the end of that game is like leaving out the fact that the Raiders couldn't convert a 3rd-1 that wins the game or got taken to overtime by the no question greatest clutch kick of all time in that game.True. But as I'm sure you can't avoid thinking about your avatar not getting jobbed by the refs, I can't help but wonder what a dialed-in Parcells (& coaching staff...remember, they kinda knew and had to alter the prep routine) could have done.
Had that happened, the Tuck Rule game probably never happens. Parcells fucked you, too. ;-)
And you can see his missed tackle right hereWas it Hassan Graham (#81) that replaced him that game? Goddamn.
No one's forgotten Reggie's performance, least of all Max Lane, who probably still wakes up in cold sweats remembering Reggie's shoving him around.True, but forgetting Reggie White's all time great performance toward the end of that game is like leaving out the fact that the Raiders couldn't convert a 3rd-1 that wins the game or got taken to overtime by the no question greatest clutch kick of all time in that game.
Wait, I leave those two facts out all the time. Bob Kraft has pictures of Walt Coleman naked with an underage orangutang!!
Point granted.
I remember feeling the same way, and felt like momentum was on the Pats side. But that changed quickly after that kick return. After that, I didn't have much hope that they were coming back.27-21 with 3 minutes left in the 3rd. I say it again, that was a winnable game.
Definitely. The thing with that game was that Favre was only 14 of 27 for 246 yards, he really didn't throw all that much. He wasn't forcing the ball to that point in the game. Would he have in the 4th had the game been close? Who knows? At 27-21 you had to feel it was a winnable game. Favre had largely cleaned up his gunslinger act in '96, but is there really any doubt that if it was a close game in the 4th that he wouldn't have tried to force one in?

I missed the beginning. This really happened??Is @Smiling Joe Hesketh ok?
Rex creating a "Where is Rex?" story in the NFL Network pregame by not coming out on the field, then sending an assistant coach to tell the sideline reporter "Rex doesn't want this be about him," is the kind of thing that might give him an aneurysm.

I'm struck by how long ago the mid nineties were. And you can see his missed tackle right here
I was actually struck by how relatively 'modern' the broadcast quality seems (when I watched the full game on youtube). You get a roughly similar viewing experience as today in terms of replays, camera cuts, pacing etc. Compare this to broadcasts from the mid-80s, where it feels like television had just been invented and it feels semi-miraculous that anybody could have maintained interest all the way through a random ho-hum game.I'm struck by how long ago the mid nineties were.
My shitty cable company recently removed NFL Network from my sub package, so I didn't see the game last night. So I missed all of this. But that's a perfect summary of the Sexy Rexy experience. What a piece of narcissistic shit he is.Is @Smiling Joe Hesketh ok?

Yeah this was even true in the early-mid 90s to my recollection. Lots of Raiders games.Maybe this is me "misremembering" the NFL from the 80s, but we always seemed to get West Coast games as the 4 p.m. game on Sunday's. The 1 p.m. game was the local game and then it was the Chargers, Raiders or 49ers. There wasn't the scheduling we have today which tries to place interesting/competitive games in the 4:25 time slot. In addition to the the upgrades in technology which dramatically changed the game visually, the reimagining of the scheduling is the biggest improvement for me.
[USA Today wrapup]“It’s pretty satisfying,” Ryan said of Thursday night’s victory. “Without question. And, you know what? Now I can talk the truth and say the truth. I look at it this way: It’s kind of like being dumped by some girl that you had the hots for and all that stuff. Every guy in this room has been dumped by some girl before. That’s really what it feels like. Hey, you move on and every now and then, they call you back.
“But they can’t get you back.”
Major amen on the second point. Rex teams NEVER handle prosperity well. But again, to be clear, Rex didn't want last night to be about him.
I'm totally fine with the result and even the fist pumping for two reasons. One, no matter how I felt about the fist pumping it bothered Jets fans about a million times more. Two, Rex getting all satisfied with himself after a win like that bodes exceedingly well for the Pats a week from Sunday.

Hold me back fellas, hold me back. You're lucky these guys are here, otherwise I'd've kicked your ass!Mike Rodak @mikerodak 1m1 minute ago
Rex Ryan: “I would sign up to play the Patriots right outside, right now. 70 mph winds.” Let’s see what you got Brady, he says.

Didn't Brady once throw five touchdown passes in a blizzard? I mean, in one quarter in a blizzard.Mike Rodak @mikerodak 1m1 minute ago

With last night's win, Rex Ryan becomes our highest-graded coach since 2009.
That's no way to talk about your favorite person in the NFL.He's a sick, sick man.
Yeah, Rex, like they give one iota about beating you personally. They could give a shit. But it's not about you! They also don't give a shit about "burying" the Bills. He is saying that because it implies that the Pats would be scared to play them in the playoffs so they want to eliminate the Bills. Again, propping himself up."Of course they want to bury me," Ryan said Thursday. "No question they want to beat me. But this is nothing to do with me, it's something to do with our team. Yeah, they want to put us away, there's no question. When you look at it from their perspective, right now we're second in the division, so of course they're gonna try to do whatever they can.
I'm hoping the WCs are Buffalo and Oakland and the Jets and Steelers are at the beach.Personally I enjoyed this part

The Pats care about this game because it is a division game and one step closer to a division title / bye / HFA / Lombardi. Period.
