I think they changed the rules so that interdivison match ups can happen in the ALDS.
 
EDIT: Yes, they did. The Sox played the Rays in the ALDS last year.

Winner of wild card game plays division winner with best record regardless of division each team is in. In 2012 Orioles won wild card game and then played Yankees in ALDS.
