Sorry if this has already been talked about, but I recently downloaded an adware virus called CloudScout, and it is running wild all over my computer. I have tried to manually uninstall it using Windows, and used a couple different third-party malware scanners to get rid of it as well, but nothing seems to work. If anyone has any experience/knows what to do, it would be much appreciated for a computer novice like myself. Thanks.

I had a similar issue recently.  It wasn't cloudscout, so YMMV.  I did all the malware cleanup, etc I knew to do and it would not go away.  I finally uninstalled firefox and chrome and then re-installed.  No traces of it since.

At a minimum I would use Malwarebytes specifically, and reset your browser(s) as described.

Malwarebytes is a joke and has been for several years, it's toy AV useless for anything but the most trivial infections.

ESET offers 30 day free use of NOD32, download it, install and there's a decent chance it can clean your situation up, then watching Newegg you can usually find a sale that will let you purchase a year license for $25 or less, sometimes below $20...and well worth it.

Good to know! It's handled everything that my brother's kids have managed to catch with his computer, but I can certainly imagine those were adware/annoyance situations.

Deep inside Muppet Labs
I just had a nasty virus that was very similar to that Cloudscout one cleaned up on my machine, had to restore to an earlier state in order to get rid of the damn thing. Something worth trying if needed.

I did uninstall and re-install Firefox but that didn't do anything. I will check out what you said Couperin, thanks for the help everyone.

I got the scanner off of ESET, it cleaned a lot of things up and it currently recognizes no infected files on my computer, yet CloudScout is still showing up. What should I do?

Perhaps you didn't set up ESET properly to find everything, latest reports are that it has no trouble handling Cloudscout...

follow the directions at the end of this thread ?

There is the ESET online scanner, which is a minor applet install, and then there is the 30-day trial version of the full software. The former is not as capable as the latter.

Last suggestion: others have noticed this infection installs other programs that do appear in your Windows list of installed programs, and can be uninstalled from the Apps page: Check the list of apps that show are installed in Applications under Control Panel, it may be an app that simply isn't being recognized as rogue and hiding in plain sight.

Uninstall Eset, download the free 30-day trial of Kaspersky and give it a go. Also, if you can mount the infected drive as a second drive in another PC and scan it from there, that could help.

Tried that, no luck. I can't see anybody about it today, so I have to wait until tomorrow when things are actually open. Very frustrated right now, but thanks for the help everyone.

Have you tried doing a system restore? Last time I got a virus that fixed it for me.
