Varitek, Wakefield, Ira Flagstead and Larry Lucchino inducted into the Red Sox Hall of Fame

Geez, not even @redsoxstiff saw that guy play. And after reading his wikipedia page, I have no idea why he was waived at the end of 1928, when it seems he had a decent/good season.
I hope they aren't planning to embarrass Varitek by making him attempt to catch Wakefield again.

I get Varitek and Wakefield, but I have to admit, I'm a little befuddled on the selection of Ira Flagstead

In his 6 years with the Red Sox (1923-28) he averaged 2.4 BWAR (for what it's worth). Five of those six years he received downballot MVP votes, finishing as high as 7th in 1925 in what statistically looks like his worst year with the Sox. As the Wikipedia page notes, he was considered an excellent outfielder, leading the league in assists a couple of times (a 1920s JBJ?).
As for the befuddlement... I get that. My supposition is that he was the best representative of an era. Those were lean years for the Sox - 5 of the 6 years they finished last in the eight-team AL; the other year they were seventh. So, best guy on some bad teams?

Flagstaff? I think you may have cemented the befuddlement factor. Who was this guy? And who pushed for his selection? Was he the Dentist's great-grandfather? Seriously how many Sox fans really could have identified this guy as either a Sox alumni, or qualified for the Sox HoF?
Just saw NESN's coverage of this. Some great stuff from Papi and Pedro with a touching moment crediting Varitek with being essential to his success in Boston.
Worth noting, Lucchino looked absolutely terrible. After all the conspiracy theories about why he was moved out, hope it's not the case but it's hard not to think his health was the biggest reason.
