To show how mid table sides really need that stud striker, look at Fulham and Brentford.

I didn't realize WHU was on such a better pace. Villa I expected. Liverpool look like title challengers this season, which is perhaps a tick more than I expected. Surprised that Wolves are ahead of last year's pace--they're easily the club I find most perplexing. Newcastle dealing with tons of injuries and not coping well, with a dash of European football to justify their delta. And I felt like FFC was smoke and mirrors last season, but perhaps not to this extent.

Moyes came very very close to getting sacked last year, Europa being alive saved him then a late seasons run, but it was a relegation scrap for Christmas

Wolves could not score at all last season to save their lives and were looking at serious relegation candidates. They've got 27 goals so far at the half-way point after only scoring 31 goals over all of last year. A full season under Gary O'Neill has probably helped, but they've gotten a great year out of Hwang Hee-chan, Pedro Neto was great for them early before getting injured, a full season of Matheus Cunha getting settled at striker has been a big boost for them.

In general, City being a more mortal club so far this season has made this a really great first half with a lot of clubs still in the mix at the half-way point. Liverpool, Arsenal and City are probably going to be the ones at the end, but the fact that Villa and Spurs are still in the mix at this point is great for the league. It also feels like any club can really drop points at any time, which makes each match week feel super important, but at the same time, one loss doesn't kill you like it used to.

Brighton tracking to form despite losing talent and playing in Europe is mighty impressive.
The players they’ve lost have not been as impactful in their new clubs, which also says something about their ability to get the most out of players.
