With the Bruins the favorite to win it all, both with Vegas and the media, it makes me happier that they face Detroit in the first round. It should keep them from looking forward too much and expecting to win instead of earning the win.

Spreadsheet is going up here.  Its a work in progress for now, but the plan is
1) get all entries in
2) colorize (I have to learn to script google drive to allow for >10 conditional formats.  I write code for a living so it won't be too hard, I just have to figure out the right syntax)
   2a) http://teamcolors.arc90.com/ is awesome
3) get all games/series in
4) calculations for score

I'll have it done this weekend depending on how much time I get.  Good luck to all

Update: Games and scoring are in.  I'll do colorization once a team wins a series.  Good luck to all

Edit: Montreal has won, and no one picked them in 4, so I guess I don't owe anyone a billion dollars.

Went to bed last night before ANA rallied, so that's now been updated.  Half the series in the 1st round are done, and I've sorted by score in the spreadsheet so you can see how well or poorly you're doing.

And if your goal was fewest points FAH, you're not in last now, but both you and CoolPapaBellhorn both had your cup winner lose.

First round: 1 point for correct winner, 1/2 point on top of that if you got the # of games right as well.  It goes up to 2/1, 4/2, and 8/4 in the next rounds.

I've also greyed out teams that have been eliminated going forward, so the people that had STL going all the way can see that they're relatively screwed at this point.

that works, but I was reading the original instructions that said

with an extra 1 point for every series length picked correctly.

You're completely right, I had originally said 1 per, but I thought having the right # be worth the same as picking the first round as too much when I was creating the spreadsheet.  I'll do scoring either way, either +1 for each correct round all the way through or 50% extra for picking games as well.  Any thoughts?  Its trivial to change the scoring on the spreadsheet (I use the values in the scoring row).

I think a half point for this round is fine.  I don't think either way is upsetting the integrity of the process or anything.

I'm mainly replying for posterity, so I can look back at a time when I was in first place here.  (This will be very fleeting unless the Sharks complete the full '04 Yankees against the Kings.)

You know what, changing the scoring points at the end of the season and re-scoring will be easy, so I'll just post both and we can argue about who was better.  I'll fuck this up less next season, but as long as the NHL keeps the bracket, 99% of the work outside the predictions is done.

I believe this is all accurate, but the spreadsheet hasn't been updated so I could have missed something.
  • Only two members went 7/8 in the opening round while correctly picking the Wild as winners. They were dylanmarsh and CoolPapaBellhorn. Unfortunately, the only loss each member suffered was to their Cup winner. CoolPapaBellhorn had the Blues going all the way and dylanmarsh had the Sharks winning the Cup.
  • Five other members went 7/8 with their only miss being the Avalanche. They were RedOctober3829, jsinger, AMcGhie, SoxFanInPdx, and BlackJack.
  • SoxFanInPdx should be leading with his 7/8 and 3 correct series length picks. AMcGhie was the only other person to go 7/8 and pick more than 1 length correctly as he got two right. Neither SoxFanInPdx nor AMcGhie had Colorado advancing again, so they've got all their potential points in tact from here on out.
  • I believe kenneycb and NickEsasky led the back of the pack with only 3/8 in the opening round.
  • MoGator71 (PHI), Dylanmarsh (SJS), CoolPapaBellhorn (STL), and ForceAtHome (STL) lost their Cup winners.
  • Every single team with their Cup winner still alive has Boston in the finals.

  • The Four Peters (ANA over BOS)
    and erfus (LAK over BOS)
are the only two members with a potential Cup winner left who aren't the Bruins.

The reason I don't gamble is evident. Having my Western Conference Champion out and going 4 for 8 ain't getting it done. Go Bruins indeed.

All correct sir.  I've greyed out future incorrect picks so people can see what potential points are/are not available.

Added results for PIT/NYR, but I'm headed to bed, so if CHI wins tonight, I won't update til tomorrow.

Edit: added CHI as well.  Re-sorted with leaders.

I'll update things when this round is over.  Not much is going to change in the standings after this though.

Other than picking the Flyers over the Rangers I had the east correct. I win.
