Fried at 100 pitches, Bryce Miller at 74.

Edit: and Fried done for the night.

Both the Mets and Atlanta had no-hitters in the 8th inning. They both lost their games. Mets were tied and gave up 2 in T9. Atlanta was winning 1-0, and B9 started with a walk and a home run.

The Braves are 4 outs away from a combo no-no. Fried was a bit more impressive… Joe Jimenez is only throwing no-hit stuff because he's not getting anything over the plate.

Through 8… the Mets bailed out Jimenez so much it looked like they wanted the no-hitter preserved more than he did.

Down to their last out and the no-hitter – and shutout – is over thanks to JD Martinez, on the first pitch he sees from Iglesias.

Other no-hitters I found broken up with a home run, with two down in the ninth:

-Bobby Higginson off Roy Halladay, 1998
-Ken Phelps off Brian Holman, 1990
-George Hendrick off Mario Soto, 1984
-Gary Alexander off Mike Flanagan, 1978
-George Scott off Rick Wise, 1975

This guy is pretty special. 11 K's and 100 MPH on his last pitch.

It's up to the bullpen to carry on the no-no.

Skenes is electric. First “must watch start” guy in a bit. Pirates fans must be salivating.
Yeah, imagine having to begin a Best-of-3 NL Wild Card series next year going against Skenes and Jared Jones? Gooooood luck.

Credit to Ben Cherington for overseeing this rebuild. Just wonder whether he'll survive as GM if the Pirates continue to be unable to hit water falling out of a boat: https://www.post-gazette.com/sports/pirates/2024/05/11/pirates-general-manager-ben-cherington-offensive-struggles-rowdy-tellez-michael/stories/202405100094

And it's a day for mustached pitchers. Tyler Alexander of the Rays perfect through 5.

Alexander not getting helped by deep counts and a LOT of foul balls. Still perfect but at 92 pitches through 7.

Grayson Rodriguez, refreshed after his fake IL stint, hasn't given up a hit through 5 to SEA, just 57 pitches.

Gone on a weak infield grounder that the 2B couldn't get to in time.

The cradle of the game.
STL Sonny Gray (makes me feel fine) perfect through 6.2 vs SF.

Edit:
Oops! Patrick Bailey HR ends the perfecto, no-no and shutout all in 1 swing.

From Nightengale:

Paul Skenes' first no-hitter will have to wait. He's pulled after seven no-hit innings, 11 strikeouts and 99 pitches after yet another sensational game. This is the second time in his 11 career starts he has pitched at least 6 no-hit innings. Next game, perhaps start: Tuesday

P.S. And the reliever immediately gave up a hit.
