According to Fortune, MLBAM will be the streaming service for HBO starting in 2015.

In a major strategic shift, HBO will license the technology underpinning the standalone streaming service it plans to offer in 2015. The company has killed a project called “Maui” that would build the new streaming service in-house, according to an internal memo (see below).
Rather than build the technology internally, the company has struck a deal to use external technology offering fromMLB Advanced, according to sources familiar with the situation. MLB Advanced already provides white-label streaming technology for clients like WWE Network, but HBO will likely be its largest client. It’s unclear what this means for the future of HBO Go, the company’s existing streaming service for cable subscribers.

Weird for the article to say that it's "unclear what it means for HBO Go". This is basically just changing the backend service behind HBO Go. It's certainly a coup for MLBAM, but it shouldn't actually change anything on the consumer end, other than hopefully continuing to provide high bandwidth streams even as the service continues to grow.

Why do you say this? Do you know something? From what I've read to date it appears that this service will be distinct from. HBO Go in every way. I suspect nothing changes behind Go at all and the MLBAM tech will be for the new OTT service only. It's a lot easier to move content around than it is to migrate a whole service, especially a service with different She's.

As an HBO fan, considering how God-awful MLB.tv was this past season, this is terrifying.

It was a bumpy season, I agree. Which is odd, it's was great for the two prior seasons. The fact remains that MLBAM has been a pioneer in the OTT space for a while. They have invested a ton and and the money they make from it is proof enough for the likes of HBO.

They added the WWE network this year, which many suspect hurt the stream . Adding HBO scares me , enough that I'll wait until May or June to subscribe to MLBtv, to make sure the kinks are worked out.

It's not common knowledge but MLBAM also runs most of ESPN3. It's amazing how far ahead of everyone else they are.
