ESPN.com surveyed 50 scouts, front-office executives, big league coaches and media analysts and asked them to select the game's best managers in a multitude of categories. The overall winner: Bochy, whose three world championships in five seasons have put him on a Hall of Fame track andraised him above the crowd.

JF got 2.2% of the vote (10th best) for best overall manager, and 5.1% of the vote for "Best At Handling A Pitching Staff" (5th best),

I'm continuously amazed to how Mike Scioscia appears on these. He's basically the Jeff Fisher of the MLB.

That's not really a ranking. It's more a statement of who the top four or five managers might be.

The bunt call was really the only egregious thing IMO.  Mediocre pens that are overworked become terrible no matter who you throw out there.  It's on Cherington who keeps lining Farrell up with that tall glass of slop.

And I have a feeling we don't have the whole story on the Tazawa thing.

I agree that Farrel is only as good as the players he has to work with. What I have an issue with is the fact that Breslow is still here and only now are we getting a look at Ramirez. We should be beyond evaluating Ramirez and onto Light or Escobar.

Polls like this are largely a popularity, or a recognition contest. Everybody will always know who the Red Sox manager is, so he gets votes unless he's Bobby V. Surprised Matheny isn't higher. Too surly? I thought Clint Hurdle was a knuckleheaded manager with CO, but now he's good with the Pirates? Farrell wouldn't be in my top 10, but I didn't get to vote.

Agree that's it's just a popularity or familiarity poll so I don't think it means anything.

Speaking of that bunt I can't understand the thinking behind it - especially in regards to the state of the pen. Why play for extra innings when you are completely unequipped to succeed. And then why pull Breslow with the pen so sparse?

Have you even bothered to look at Escobar's performance this year?

If Francona is the best at handling players, those Red Sox clubhouses with Manny, Beckett, Ortiz, Pedro, Pedro's midget, Millar, Foulke, Youk and Lackey must have been a huge shitshow. I shudder to think what we would have heard about if a less skilled manager was in place.

Can we get Tito back in the next year or so, please?

No the overall point I was trying to make is the Sox should be further along in evaluating options for the bullpen then they are. You know what your getting when you throw Breslow out their, it's long overdue to go with unknowns.

He's signed with Cleveland through 2018 with club options for 2019 and 2020, sad to say.

Well if you had bothered to look at their stats you would see that Escobar currently has a 12.42 era and in his last outing gave up 4 runs in 2/3s of an inning. Light has been better(hard to be worse) but has over a 4 era and has been in AAA for less than a month.
We all know Breslow sucks and would be happy to find someone better but don't be Breslow, put some level of thought into your posts don't just throw random ramblings up on the board.

If you have issues with my post feel free to pm me, otherwise I am not interested in anything you have to say that is not related to the overall point. The overall point I was making in case you missed it is, that either through the waiver wire, the minors or a minor trade Craig Breslow should not have had this many lives. Relievers are notoriously unpredictable. Someone on this board suggested we give Feliz a shot even though he sucked in Texas this year. It would not be abnormal if he came to a new team and turn it around. I feel that once it became clear that Breslow was done, and given that his struggles extended to last year, the Sox should have done more to strengthen the bullpen. Now if you disagree that is awesome but why do you disagree? Do you think it is unlikely their was any minor trade to be made? You made it clear the options in the minors are not worth a look, but what about a minor trade to bring a middle reliever in? Do you think that is a good idea why or why not? Responding to those questions are what will further the conversation along. Like I said if you feel my post is sloppy etc that is what pm are for. Thank you.

The ways in which your post was sloppy are manifold, and frankly need to be cleaned up in many ways if you wish to keep posting here. And I mean both in terms of communication and expression of ideas as well as the obvious problems with grammar and syntax.

Feel free to PM if you have inquiries.
