The steroid thing is sort of besides the point. Whether or not Anderson used, there were a lot of players who did use, and not many of them went from hitting .219/.313/.306 from ages 24-27 to hitting .270/.378/.465 from ages 28-36. Steroids may or may have been part of that jump, but it seems like there was some real improvement there, too.

Fair enough--apologies if that's how you took it HRB, that would be way over the line and never somewhere I'd go on here. Just a rhetorical device that, frankly, reading over again, not sure it really applies all that well anyway.

In any event, on the steroid thing, to each his own. I'd probably guess BA used if I had to put money down, for instance, so it's a moot point. Apologies for the hijack.

I inferred that he was unfamiliar with the "have you stopped beating your wife?" trope and took it literally.
Ironically, if Brady Anderson were to start beating his wife, that would be circumstantial evidence of steroid use.

Very well played. Of course if Brady did have a wife that would also be circumstantial evidence of it being a coverup.

To be precise, JtB was accusing you of begging the question (i.e. assuming the conclusion), a logical fallacy, not of beating your wife. ("So when did you stop beating your wife?" is the classic example used to illustrate this fallacy - although I don't think you actually were doing so in the thread.)

But your interpretation of it did clearly point out why it is fallacious.

Is that seriously a real picture of him? That makes the Nomar cover look like the proverbial 97 lb weakling.
