Even with the change, the area remains a potential flashpoint, and perhaps a more foolproof approach would be for umpires to use an exit in the left-field corner at Fenway that connects to the service hallway that leads to their dressing room.
This puts the umps in very close quarters with the fans along the LF line, and it's a much more lengthy walk to their dressing room than they currently have.
If this is true the umps should get a fine and suspension for engaging in the argument. They could have walked up the stairs and closed the door, end of story. Instead they engaged which helped escalate it.
Joe Torre is sending a strong message to coaching staffs.
John Gibbons is also being fined (Large, yet undisclosed amount)
Blue Jays are frustrated with their start, and are now paying a price for letting it
get the best of 'em.
