Since many posters have tuned out of the Ballghazi thread, I thought we could use this thread to draw attention to what's happening to other teams in the NFL this offseason.

Browns General Manager Ray Farmer could get suspended, and the team could lose a draft pick, over the investigation that is becoming known as Textgate.
Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports that multiple league sources say a suspension, a draft pick forfeiture and a fine are all on the table as the NFL investigates whether team executives texted the coaching staff during games to suggest play calls. That would be a violation of league rules, which limit the types of electronic communications that players, coaches and other team officials can use during games.

League sources declined to confirm or deny whether the Cleveland Browns could be forced to dissolve and relocate to Anchorage.  Stay tuned.

Green Bay --- Green Bay Packers nose tackle Letroy Guion was arrested Tuesday night in Starke, Fla., charged with a felony of possessing marijuana and a firearm, captain Barry Warren of the Starke Police Department said Wednesday.
In the state of Florida, Warren explained, possession of marijuana is divided into less than or more than 20 grams. In Guion's case, he said it was "definitely" more than 20.

Baltimore Ravens nose tackle Terrence Cody was indicted Monday morning for animal abuse involving a dog and an alligator, according to the Baltimore County Deputy State's Attorney in Maryland.
Cody, who was officially released by the Ravens on Monday, turned himself in when a warrant was issued and posted $10,000 bail. An investigation was started after Cody took his dog to a veterinarian for treatment and the dog subsequently died.

They may actually be petitioning for this based on it being the best possible thing for Manziel.....

Dallas Cowboys running back Joseph Randle created one of the stranger stories of the 2014 season, when he was arrested for shoplifting underwear and cologne.
Well, he didn't seem to learn much from that event.
Randle was arrested again, early Tuesday in Wichita, Kan., for possession of marijuana according to multiple reports including the Dallas Morning News. The police were responding to a disturbance call at 3 a.m., the Morning News' story said. KAKE in Wichita said it was a domestic violence call. KAKE said Randle and a 22-year-old woman, who is the mother of his child, were arguing.

Can anybody explain why so many arrests of NFL players happen?  I would think teams tell them to be scrupulously careful if they want to stay in the league's good graces and keep getting paid.  Is the idea that the risk/reward profile for pot possession, simple assault, etc. is REALLY BAD when you are a pro athlete so hard to understand?  Are the teams not sending the message, or are the players too dumb to get it?

I've seen it reported that they are arrested no more frequently than other men in their age range.

I assume that as professional football players they are mini-celebrities who are often treated differently.  As such, they probably have an inflated sense of how awesome they are.  They most likely get away with so much crap through their high school and college careers that when they reach the professional level, they assume that they will continue to get away with breaking the law/rules.

That may be, but the point is that they should be on notice that they should behave better than other men in their age range, and their big salaries and the possibility of losing them are the reason.

There are almost 1700 players on NFL rosters, more than that when you consider IR, practice squads, and shadow rosters. When there's a series of news stories it seems like a ton of them are getting arrested, but we're really talking about a tiny percentage here.

Not exactly

A month ago, it looked like a foregone conclusion that the Green Bay Packers would sign defensive tackle Letroy Guion to a long-term deal. Talks had been ongoing between Guion's agent, Seth Katz, and the Packers, and the sides were expected to meet again soon.
Starting all 16 regular-season games in Raji's place, Guion set career highs for tackles and sacks (3.5) and quickly became a popular figure in the locker room. In fact, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers called Guion "one of my all-time favorite teammates" last month on his ESPN Milwaukee radio show.
