If defense got its proper due, Norm van Lier and Jerry Sloan would be on a list (though they were far from offensive ciphers). Those early 70s Bulls played crushing defense. Kept running into the Lakers in the playoffs though.

Just seems appropriate to bump West and Goodrich today. If you don't live in a City with pro teams, or even nearby, fandom comes down to what player you most liked when you were 5 or 6. I was just tethered to the Logo, and therefore, the Lakers for much of my life. What they did to Zeke bordered on criminal.

The Short Bus
Gary Grant and Antoine Joubert
Chris Childs and Doug Usatilo
Kenny Anderson and Mark Price
Scott Skiles absolutely torched Grant and Joubert in one of those UM-MSU games, and kept calling him "Fat Boy" when they were running up and down the court.

I have been reading Loose Balls and I concur. I was thinking of Fly Williams and Freddie Lewis, but I digress. Honorable mention Cocaine era shout-out to Ray Williams and Michael Ray Richardson, and the contemporaries of Payton and Hawkins, Drexler and Terry Porter.
Loose Balls is a great read. The Marvin Barnes stories alone are worth it.
