After a series of short passes to Edelman and Wright, Brady faced 3rd and 4 from the Bears’ 46 and found his favorite target on a crossing pattern at the 30-yard line. However, Robert James Gronkowski is not happy with intermediate-range completions. Robert James Gronkowski doesn’t get out of bed to pick up 15 yards. Robert James Gronkowski gets out of bed to catch touchdowns. And so, in typical Robert James Gronkowski fashion, he proceeded to stiff arm one defender, run away from two others, and bowl over a fourth Bear to turn a solid gain into a 46-yard touchdown that opened the half.

Were you wearing a Hernandez jersey?

My Hernandez jersey went down my old garbage chute before the Pats announced the trade-in.  So since my Welker and Moss jerseys both ripped playing flag football, I am currently without a Pats jersey and still undecided on who to pick up.

I recommend Ryan Allen.

Given the way Belichick goes through punters, I don't know if that would be a good long-term investment.  I'm waiting for the next 7th round slot receiver to be drafted.

Yeah, I know. I was heavily considering a Zoltan Mesko jersey but then we all saw what happened there.

Why didn't he just run straight?  Is his diagonal speed greater than his straightline speed?

Haven't you ever played NHL 94?

In all honesty though, although it increases the distance to the goalline, it also increases the angle that the defender has to take to catch the player. Think of it like this. In a right triangle, the hypotenuse is a certain length. If you make that angle bigger than 90 degrees, the distance of the straight line path between the players increases as well.

Well in this case wasn't he being chased from directly behind him? I think going diagonal just forced the pursuer to change direction, slowing him down just enough.

The defender is coming from behind and from the middle of the field, running toward the sideline.  Gronkowski sees him coming and turns away from the sideline, so that the defender's momentum carries him away from Gronk.   It only gives him a few seconds of freedom, since the defender is faster, but it's enough to permit Gronk to reach the end zone.

How is it that a former kicker has such poor foot and leg control that he is a constant danger to those around him?

After watching Denver defend Antonio Gates and Vernon Davis the past two weeks, I don't see why Gronk shouldn't have a big game. The strength of Denver's pass defense are Harris and Talib, probably on Edelman and LaFell.
The safeties, along with Brandon Marshall filling in for Danny Trevathan, tend to cover the TE's--and they just aren't that good in coverage, or big. I think Gronk and Wright will catch a lot of balls.
