DSL Blue out-hit the DSL Rays, 7 to 3, out-errored them 5 to 4, & outscored them 6-4.

I have been ignoring Prado this season because I know we had a Prado in the DSL last season so I was not impressed. Then I remembered today that was OF Martin Prado & this is 17 y/o pitcher Abis Prado, who is now officially at least quasi-interesting through 3 games.

8.1 IP
6 runs
0 ER
3 hits
6 bb
11 k

Prado is a 6'3 LHP from Venezuela who turns 18 in October & signed for $20k this January.

This game he pitched 3 no-hit innings, walking 3, striking out 2, & allowing 3 unearned runs.

Next up was Yoelvin Chirino who has only allowed 2 hits in 7 IP this season & allowed 1 run in 3 IP today, but is 19 so meh.

William Reynoso pitched 2 scoreless innings & Denison Sanchez pitched a scoreless 9th for the save. Both have a little ways to go before I choose to talk about them further, but both are heading in an ok direction.

Justin Gonzales 2-4, 2b, 3b
Ilan Fernandez 1-2, bb, sf
Bolivar & J. Lugo 1-4, 2b
Yoiber 1-3, hbp
Brito 1-4

So Yoiber Ruiz... he signed the 3rd highest bonus in the Red Sox '23 IFA class at $500k, but then had a hamate bone removed after signing & struggled, putting up a 97 wRC+ almost entirely on the back of a 22% walk rate.

Last year he started games at the following positions:

2B - 20 games
3B - 14 games
SS - 12 games

This year the 18 y/o 5'7 righty from Araure, VZ had only played 2 games all season, both at 2B, before starting at catcher today. He had a passed ball & threw out 1 of 2 attempted base stealers.

Idk, just something random to keep an eye on.

DSL Red keeps finding a way to win games & are now 8-2 after a 3-2 victory in 10 innings.

I was surprised Jose Martinez repeated the DSL after putting up a 1.80 ERA in 25 DSL innings last year, 1.4 bb/9, 10.1 k/9 - especially considering he's now 19.

Not sure what else they want him to prove at this level, but he pitched 4 innings in relief today & allowed 1 run on 4 hits & a walk with 5 strikeouts. For the season he has a 1.54 ERA in 11.2 IP, 3.1 bb/9, 8.5 k/9.

A couple guys I am not too surprised are repeating the DSL this year also had good games & have been having good seasons.

Breilin Arredondo, who turns 19 in July & had a 5.14 ERA last year, pitched 2.1 scoreless today & on the season has pitched 7.2 scoreless innings. Only 3 k's, though...

& Juan Henriquez who had a pretty decent age 16/17 season in the DSL last year (4.68 ERA in 42.1 IP), pitched the final 3 innings scoreless with a hit, a walk & 2 strikeouts.

Henriquez, who turns 18 later this month, has allowed 1 run in 7 innings this season on 2 hits, 3 walks & 5 strikeouts.

Anderson Fermin 3-5
Christopher Alvarado 2-4
Edwin Brito 2-5
