DSL Blue understood the theme...

They got 2 scoreless innings from Jesus Travieso & then went to Jose Galindano.

As did the FCL Sox, starting Juan Valera.

I see where DSL Red were going with Yermain Ruiz starting, but it seems like a bit of a stretch.

Valera, who turned 18 last month, pitched 3 perfect innings with 5 strikeouts, lowering his ERA to 2.33 in 19.1 IP.

He appears to have taken a big jump from last year when he struggled to a 5.93 ERA in 27.1 IP for DSL Blue.

Prior to today, his success seemed a bit unsustainable as he had maintained his 6.6 bb/9 pace from last year & was only striking out 6.6 per 9. Today is interesting, though.

The 6'3 RHP signed for $45k last April & is from Sabana Grande de Palenque, DR.

FCL Sox play for the 1st time all week & the game only lasts 6 innings.

NDLC got through 1.2 scoreless despite a hit & 3 walks, & Adam Bates came in for the final 1.1 innings to complete the shutout.

Sox win 3-0.

DSL Blue won 9-4.

After starting the season 0-15, The Million Dollar Man, VLAD Asencio is heating up.

He's 4-9 with a walk, a double & a steal the last 2 games.

I'm really starting to get excited about the DSL guys the last couple days after being in wait & see mode. 9 runs on 16 hits probably helps with that, too...

SS - Ilan Fernandez 3-4, bb, 2 2b (1.160 OPS in 21 PAs)

1B - Justin Gonzales 2-4, 2 2b (1.092 OPS in 28 PAs)

DSL Red won 7-6.

Yermain Ruiz started & pitched 3 scoreless innings with 1 hit & 3 strikeouts.

Breilin Arredondo pitched 1.1 scoreless & now has 5.1 scoreless innings so far this season.

But the SSS guy who stands out from this game is Yander Bonaci.

There is a lot of trauma associated around most of that name, but the 5'11 LHP went 6 up, 6 down & in 3 games this season:

Bonaci, who turns 18 in October, is from Turmero, VZ & signed for $25k this January.

Cesar Muzziotti has a pretty cool name & made his season debut today in the 9th inning with a 7-6 lead. He walked a guy & hit another 2, but got out of the inning unscathed & picked up the save.

DSL Red may be off to a 6-2 start, but they don't have the gaudy OPS's of the Blue guys.

Jhoan Pegura (1-3, 2 hbp, sb) has the highest in today's lineup at .808.

JDE last pitched on Tuesday the 4th, so I expect he probably did the sidework thing or whatever it is they've been doing with guys on Mondays on the 10th & wouldn't be due to start until Sunday.

Wikelman last pitched on the 9th, so he'd be due to start tomorrow.

So today seems like it would be a 2nd straight bullpen game with Coffey & Dobbins both pitching earlier this week & no other starters around.

Helcris pitched an inning on Tuesday so they could go to him for a few innings.

& Kwiatkowski last pitched 2.2 innings on the 9th, so I'd expect they'll try to get like 4 innings out of him if they can.

& then maybe 2 innings from Hoppe.

So that's my prediction.

Celtics have put enough blech into the evening that we'll start with the bad news games 1st so we can end the evening on a good note. Also going to do the bad news from the game 1st.

WooSox lost 8-3. Sal Romano seems like he shouldn't be around much longer. He allowed 6 runs & got 2 outs. He's 30 & has a 9.18 ERA in 16.2 IP.

YORDANNY struck out 8 of the 15 hitters he faced but allowed what I can only assume was a fluke 2-run homer so his final line was only OK.

Conor Steinbaugh & Nathanael Cruz each pitched 2 innings & each allowed 1 run. Salem won 5-3.

For those who, like me, thought, "Hey, I think it's been a while since Natty Cruz got into a game", you are correct. He had not pitched since he pitched 2 innings on June 5th. This is something you guys think about, right?
