Rhea Perlman is one of the best at what she does. This guy Rea doesn't look so hot. Tall righties we feast on.
Here's an oddity: The Brewers will once again use Jared Koenig, who started last night, as the opener. I know Wilbur Wood started both games of a doubleheader once, but when was the last time the Red Sox faced the same "starting pitcher" two days in a row?
Apparently Rea coming in after an inning or two.

I feel like facing the starting pitcher two games in a row might be possible in some oddball post-season scenarios, especially if there's a day off.
But the same starting pitcher on back-to-back days in the regular season?
I'm curious to know the answer. And whether it involves a knuckleballer.

The Red Sox still haven't put out a lineup today because the Brewers have switched to an opener for the second straight day. Jared Koenig will again start the game for Milwaukee. Colin Rea, originally listed as the starter, will be the bulk-innings reliever.

Those are some killer seats, yo. I sat in that section, (Jerry York’s seats), with my brother once, (he’s married to Jerry’s niece), way back in 1990.
I feel like this has happened somewhat recently and it involved an opener. I did a search for pitchers who started a game on zero days rest. So far going through the list I haven't found any back to back starts. But I have found a two recent examples of a pitcher closing the previous game and then starting the next: Luke Little of the Cubs (4/2 & 4/3/24) and Emilio Pagan of the Twins (9/29 & 9/30/23...got the save in the first game).

Maybe even more fun (or not), on April 3rd of this year, Luke Little started a game against Colorado. This is interesting because he had finished the game the night before, so he pitched consecutive innings against the Rockies, but in two different games.
The fan? I think that ball was going into the crowd, that's a tough call to make.

It clearly wasn’t going into the stands, he reached far out to try to grab it.

It's a fair ball. Gotta let it come to you. By reaching and knocking it back on the field, he sealed his fate.
He reached out, but it was clearly on a trajectory to end up in the stands. The ump even called it as such.
As for the jersey, agree to disagree, I guess. Anyone who wants to wear any Mookie jersey is fine by me.
It’s not that it’s a Mookie jersey, it’s that it’s a home jersey with the name on the back.
And after watching the replay again, it looks to me like it’s 50/50 whether it was going to end up in the stands or not. But it was clearly a live, fair ball, and he clearly reached out of the stands into the field of play to grab it. Easy decision.
Yeah, fair enough on both counts.
