His age isn't just an issue because his career will be shorter, it's mostly an issue because he's had so much college experience it's hard to compare him to guys like Williams, McCarthy and Maye. What will Drake Maye look like going into his third year in the league? Because by then he'll be at the age Penix is now. How maxed out is Penix in contrast to the other prospects? What would a Drake Maye with 2 or 3 extra years in college throwing to the Rome Odunze equivalent behind a Washington level OL look like? Those are the issues, not that he'll reach 40 slightly before the other guys.
And look at guys like Penix, Daniels and Nix. Had all three come out say before they all transferred to their new schools all three are likely undrafted QB's. Not sure how much upside is really left with them.

I think the whole COVID extra year aspect has been super under discussed with those guys. Daniels and Nix especially would have been afterthoughts had they come out last year. 23/24 year olds with 4 and 5 years of experience playing 19/20 year olds... I don't know. Has to be part of the evaluation.

Yeah, if after his 2022 campaign Maye transferred to OSU to cash in that sweet NIL money something tells me he’s getting picked over Jayden Daniels. Experience and circumstance are both legitimate factors to consider.

Those offers would be solid if the Pats weren't looking for a QB. But if a guy like Drake Maye is the target, you better pay a premium and neither team came particularly close.
The Trey Lance trade was 3 first-round picks, and a third-round pick. The highest first rounder was 2021 #12 overall that went from Miami to Philly to Dallas and became Micah Parsons. Is any team going to give more than that these days?

The Giants package is a decent starting point. I would have demanded 47 as well, and this would have been predicated on liking JJM as much as Maye. From his comments last night it sounds like BB would have made that deal. Vikings are probably just as happy they did not make the trade since they got JJM anyways for much less.

I would have made the deal if it included 47. But saying it’s a decent starting point isn’t accurate. 47 is a major pick

Those deals are in the ballpark if the Patriots had their QB, probably could either negotiate out the swaps for MIN, or add a pick or swap to NYG.

They aren't anything you pass on a potential franchise QB for.... which is why basically nobody who didn't have someone they thought was their QB has ever traded out of a consensus top QB pick.

I try to get a little more if I am the Pats but I might have taken either of those deals.

I don’t really think they’re laughable beyond the pick swaps. I’m glad they stayed put, but Nabers and a good first or McCarthy, Thomas, and a probably middle first are both legit building blocks for the future.

They trade with Vikings. Jets say fuck off, trade 10 to another team, they take McCarthy. Pats left with Nix or nothing.

You know, I am so rooting against the Falcons this year.

I mean, I have nothing against the players. Certainly enjoy watching Bijan and Drake London, and still hopeful for Pitts. Gotta admire Kirk Cousins' financial wizardry. By all accounts, Raheem Morris is a nice man. And I always kind of liked Arthur Blank -- he's a Stuyvesant HS graduate just like my eldest son, and if you find an NFL owner whose politics aren't bottom of the barrel, you need to respect it. And above all, nobody should have to endure the kind of humiliation they endured after 28-3 forever. [Except the Yankees, of course.]

But the Falcons turned their backs on the greatest coach of all time, to whom I'm forever loyal, so they're morons. And they did it in a way that was more dismissive and disrespectful than it should've been, so they're assholes. I want it proven beyond all shadow of a doubt that their owner sucks, their management sucks, and their coaching sucks. Last night was a terrific start.
I wish I could have said what Mugsy just said.

Except several people on here scoffed at the 4 first rounders as a target, now 3 first rounders and pick swaps is a joke. They aren’t that far apart.
Acquiring an additional first rounder versus pick swaps favoring the other team is a large difference.

I doubt any team would give the Pats their #1 2025 pick in exchange for drafting earlier in a few later rounds.

3 firsts and negative swaps is less than 3 1sts, so you're really saying in value it's something like 11+23 plus a future 2nd or future 3rd depending what swaps and when.

We don’t know the details but I agree with you and I was wrong.

I would still have held out for 4 firsts and glad they got Maye

The Mugsy's unite. Fuck those guys. I want them to absolutely TANK. Humiliations galore, 3-28 emmer-effers!
