Almost every year, people shit on the HRD, and then almost every year, those of us that tune in get rewarded by some pretty awesome theater. Whether it be Stanton hitting 500 foot bombs, or Harper winning it at home tonight, I feel like the HRD delivers pretty great entertainment on a regular basis. Maybe not every year, but often enough that it shouldn't go anywhere, and the guys seem to genuinely enjoy the moment, even if some of them don't want to compete in it, which is cool.

Andre Dawson just took a pop up at first base off his forehead. Man, guess it's not like riding a bike.

The celebrity game is always watchable. Where else will you see Jamie Fox trying to gun down Tim Kurkjian at the plate.

I was there last night, lots of good fun.

Did the TV viewers see the HS HR derby after the first round. Bobby Witt, Jr and some other guy who's committed to LSU using what I assume were titanium bats launched some moonshots to LF that were just as impressive as what the major leaguers were hitting. Witt won.

I was there too and those kids were something else. You're right that they were not using wood bats. They probably should pull the kids who shag balls off the field for the HS HR derby. The HS hitters hit some live drives with those bats that are scary.

Would anyone watch a legends HR Derby? I'm sure MLB would never go for it because it would be steroid era nostalgia but for pure entertainment value I'd love it. I'd love to see what guys like Frank Thomas or Griffey Jr could do today.

Dad was definitely pitching early but who cares, that was an impressive display of power
Why even have the rule about waiting for the ball to land? I guess they want the crowd to be able to appreciate each shot but Harper’s show last night suggests to me that pitching quickly can be even more fun to watch

Fan safety. Can't have everybody watching a high fly sail over LF while a foul line drive is screaming toward RF.

I guess, but from an athletic standpoint, that would've been been very tough to pull off. I'm sure Harper was pretty tired, but very exciting
