March/April: Red Sox discussion, observations and trend tracking...AKA It's not all about the Benjamins

It looks like they use a different base running stat, but similar overall. Separate batting and base running stats, but offensive WAR value includes both.

March/April: Red Sox discussion, observations and trend tracking...AKA It's not all about the Benjamins

Stolen/caught stealing doesn't factor into OPS, or wOBA or wRC. That is why separate base running stats exist, like wSB and UBR. But offensive WAR should include both. At least this is the fangraphs way, I don't know if baseball reference calculates anything differently.

Sox to trade for Garrett Cooper, Pablo Reyes DFA’d

T-ball stats convert poorly to the MLB level. But he dominated.

Sox to trade for Garrett Cooper, Pablo Reyes DFA’d

How often do you pinch run for a guy in the regular season? Not nearly enough to keep a guy around just for that.

Wave of mutilation: The latest injuries

Yeah, this is why you keep no longer prospects who have options. He's a break glass in case of emergency guy, and we had an emergency.

Petriello: Did Ted's 'red seat' HR really go 502 feet? No, It went farther!

Based on the wind data, I now am very skeptical, but think it is somewhat plausible. Maybe.

How do you solve a problem like Yoshida?

It seemed like you had talked yourself out of the idea by the end of your second or third sentence anyway. ;)

How do you solve a problem like Yoshida?

So you'd bench either O'neill or Abreu who are both better fielders and currently hitting better than Yoshida? Refsnyder playing first is fine, but doesn't have to impact Yoshida. Yoshida is on the roster and will stay there because while he's not a great hitter, he is miles better as a hitter...

Casas has a left rib fracture. Transferred to the 60 Day IL on 4/27.

No, but there are several reasons why Cooper could not end up on the Sox, and it wouldn't be able to be boiled down to a fake narrative of the Sox being cheap. Which is what "it's just money" suggests.

Casas has a left rib fracture. Transferred to the 60 Day IL on 4/27.

It's not money. It's working out a trade or hoping he falls to you if you put in a claim. So yeah, you have to pay him, but first you have to get him in a process that does not involve money.

Red Sox sign Danny Kirwin from the Oakland Ballers

This has his college stats. He wasn't exactly lights out. He put up a good ERA his senior year, but still walked a lot of people. https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=kirwin000dan

Casas has a left rib fracture. Transferred to the 60 Day IL on 4/27.

There definitely is. A world where Abreu continues hitting and you have him, Refsnyder, O'neill, and Duran as your outfielder is pretty nice. Yoshida has been coming on the last few weeks after a rough start, and an infield with Devers, Grissom, and Casas eventually returning could be pretty...

I can. And it is a bleak, bleak world. Let's think of happier things.

Cam Booser called up and added to 40 man. Joe Jacques optioned

How do you solve a problem like Yoshida?

I don't want to turn this into a Raffy thread, but only 7 players had a .900+ OPS and 30 HRs last year. If you extend that range to an .850+ OPS and 30 HRs, you get 10 players, including Raffy. If you extend that to .850+ OPS and 20 HRs, you get only 18 players, and it includes Triston Casas...

Cutting The Cord on Cable/Satellite TV Service?

A water park in Kearney NE you say? I think we can make in 24 hours from here, maybe 22 if Ol' Smokey is asleep at the wheel. Who wants to split gas?

Red Sox, Ceddanne Rafaela agree to contract extension

Yes, those years would be more expensive than they needed to be if his bat is no good. But not by all that much, and within the normal range of a bench player. And if he hits enough to be an everyday CF (which has a relatively low bar) he's going to be worth more than they're paying. I think...
