NESN on ROKU question

I want to drop DirectTV. The loss of NESN is the biggest problem. I see I can get a NESN app on roku (you can't get it on youtube tv), but I want to know how it works. If you have that NESN app do you have to watch the game as it happens, or can you start it a bit late or the next morning?

]If anyone likes any other option for getting NESN without cable please let me know. Thanks in advance.

From my understanding, you can only play, pause and rewind live games if you pay for the NESN 360 subscription. You cannot record anything through NESN 360. I'm out of the NESN service area, so this is a non-starter for me either way. I've read that the NESN 360 app is a disaster and causes people to frequently miss parts of games. YMMV.

I've had good luck with the NESN 360 app on Roku. I have cable, but it's the only way to watch the games in 4k and I can just log in with my Comcast account. I've never been dumped out of a game or unable to start one. There have been two issues with it, one minor and one less minor. The minor one is that I get logged out frequently, so I have to log back in every couple of weeks. The not minor issue is that the audio and video are very rarely in sync. It's really only noticeable when there's a crack of the bat or pop of the mitt. This might just be an issue with NESN in general because I was watching the games on the regular Comcast cable box and Youk's voice didn't match his lips there, either.

I believe the NESN 360 app is the same whether you pay direct or through a cable provider. So I’d recommend downloading the app, creating an account, and linking your DirecTV subscription, so can test drive it first.

NESN360 is probably the worst streaming app I deal with, but it usually works well enough. It crashes frequently, but I never feel like I’m going to get shut out of a big Bruins/Sox game. The picture quality is outstanding once it’s working.

Are you using your TVs speakers or some sort of soundbar or external? Especially if you're using ARC, I've found this can cause an issue with audio syncing.

Yes and no. I have a receiver with HDMI ARC from the TV, but the Roku is connected to the receiver like my PC, Switch, and Xbox which never have trouble. The cable box goes to the TV with the audio fed backwards out to the receiver and that never has issues either. It's just the NESN app on Roku.

I only use it for the 4k stream, which is only home games, so I'll check it out next week.

Has the NESN 360 app improved at all? I had it last year for the promo and it was horrible, which is par for the course with all things NESN.

They are currently offering a year for 180 bucks(15 a month). This will take me through baseball and all of next season B's so I am tempted at that price.

I use it native on my TV, and it's awful. The 4K stream's quality is awful (like, legit awful, not "bad for 4K"), but the HD stream is better.

It's improved, but it's still the worst streaming app I use along with League Pass. There are crashes and you'll have to restart, but usually once you get it working, it goes smoothly and without interruption. The 4K HDR quality is great if your device supports it.
