Makes you wonder why catchers don't try to initiate contact with the ump on stolen base attempts. Or maybe they do and umps are usually nimble enough to avoid it. It certainly killed whatever momentum the Dodgers might have had.
I had the exact same thought. If I were a catcher, I'd think seriously about developing a "punch the umpire" cocking move to use just for situations late in a tight game in which a stolen base might make a difference.

I've never seen that in the majors. I love baseball. It's spring training so no big deal, but if this game counted who takes the blame for this? Is the equipment manager or clubhouse attendant responsible for going to Cronenworth and saying before the game "glove looks a little rough there, champ. Maybe get a new one?" Or is this just a fluke?
MLB is dumb with this stuff, have them travel to Asia to open the season playing real games, then have them come back to play 3 more spring training dates before the home opener.
This is MLBPA as much as MLB. MLBPA isn't going to agree to players going halfway around the world (Seoul is 16 hours ahead of LA/SD), playing two games, then coming back and immediately resuming a "normal" schedule. They want time for the players to acclimate upon arrival in Korea and they want time for the players to re-acclimate after they return. The only way it makes sense is to do this trip during spring training. Same as they have done for Tokyo and Australia series in the past.
I'm not sure that blame needs to be assigned, but who would have a better take on the condition of the glove that he wears? Sometimes equipment falters.
