How did they not get granted Porzingis rebound post the overturned foul? Like I'm surprised that was allowed to be challenged period. Would've been a putback, easy.

Everything about NBA replay is so fucked. They randomly change the rules all the time. Earlier this season they decided we couldn’t have the ball because of a clear rebound, this time that doesn’t happen. So fucking dumb.

Why does it feel like NBA refs have the least amount of understanding of their own rules/ability to run a game but of every major league.

Right? That would have clearly been a rebound at minimum.

Mazzulla needs to be replaced. I am in my mom's basement and even I know more about timeouts and lineups than him

Right. How is this any different than the JB overturn earlier this season when they gave Indy the ball? Make it make sense!

Cav bencher has a career night, now it’s like a Game Seven win reaction there.

I nearly went to bed with like 7 minutes left and a 22 point lead. I'm not sure whether not doing so was a bad decision.

The difference is that Zach Zarba is here, and he is consistently awful. And proved it tonight.

Literally no one is saying that—these guys are still clear favorites to win the title. But it’s OK to acknowledge when they shit the bed in a way a championship team shouldn’t.
It’s the NBA this stuff happens every night. Including championship teams.

Well, they played with their food tonight and unlike the Warriors and others who roll over, the Cavs offered resistance even without Mitchell. A 17-point quarter will always kick you in the ass also. Terrible offense down the stretch, usually leading to easy transition looks for Cleveland.

Don’t care that they lost. They absolutely need to figure out a way to get a better shot than a Tatum 18 foot fall away over 3 guys. They have had an incredible season but this remains an issue.

it is a strange dynamic because they play one close game per month and don’t look great or organized doing it,

They are not getting enough under pressure reps.

someome is going to ask Joe about no timeout and he is going to get super defensive.

The clock stopped as Tatum's shot hit the rim because of the foul, it would have run out before any tip in

And Dean Wade went full Caleb Martin. Shit happens and I’m sure they’re ready for April just like we are.

I'm not sure what should have happened on that last possession. Mazzulla was yelling instructions and it seemed to slow them down. I get why he didn't want to take the timeout -- Celeveland would have subbed out Garland. But he probably can't be yelling instructions at them in the backcourt like that with so little time left. He had to make a choice between calling the timeout or letting the players figure it out. I think he tried to have it both ways and it just didn't work.

He took a timeout and they didn’t play any better. Scal said he tried to take one at the end and was ignored.
JM --"If theyre gonna play like that, I'm not bailing them out."*
Benefit of an 8game lead.

*Not an actual quote.

The team did everything right on the final shot--they didn't want to take a timeout because they wanted to get the switch of Tatum with Garland on him, which wouldn't happen if Joe took a timeout. They got the switch they wanted, and Tatum wasn't aggressive enough, instead settling for a contested 18 foot fallaway. That's not on Joe or anyone else but Tatum.

The clock should have stopped with 2.1 when Tatum released the ball, not at .7 after it already hit the rim. Either way, the jump ball shouldn't take place with .7, and the clock doesn't start until its touched by someone after the tip. The whole sequence was fucked from a clock standpoint.

Then why didn’t they just end the game if there was no time?

Earlier this year JB was hit in the head by Buddy, the whistle blew, everyone stopped playing, then they insanely reversed the call and gave Indy the ball on the clear rebound and gave them extra time on the clock. Secaucus has no idea what it’s doing.

The final possession was really, really bad.

It’s one game that doesn’t matter at all but that’s something to keep an eye on

What was irritating was watching the 4th quarter offense devolve into last year's offense. Someone dribbles up, pass it around the perimeter, jack a 3 or stand out of Tatums way. It was fucking 5 or 6 straight minutes of that shit.

To have the best 1-5 in the league and not have White, JB, or KP in for large stretches of this collapse felt fucking stupid, too.

Yeah, I have absoultely no idea how they left it at 0.7

There's been a couple times this year the Celtics have not managed time in that situation, by which I mean "complain abotu the clock". They need a back bench assistant whose job it is focus on specifically that.

I do not understand the rules interpretation on KP there which would be differnet than the Jaylen play in Indiana. Only thing I can figure is that they make a subjective assessment of what is 'too long' after the whistle to rule someone else took possession? Which is not what is in the rules, but I guess I get why you'd have some interpretation of that.

Season over. Mazzulla can't win close basketball games and this team has no heart.
I know you are being sarcastic but not sure how you can have confidence in Joe in a close and late playoff game against some of his peers. He has not proven to be good at it thus far. Unless you think they are just going to blow everyone out, which generally doesn’t happen in the playoffs.

Maybe he will figure it out but it is a legit concern of mine. Or maybe the team is just so good where it won’t matter.

I should be more angry at the Celtics for losing that big lead (with their bench on the floor). But I’m way angrier at Zarba for fucking them four times there, between:

1) the phantom foul on Garland,
2) the decision to jump it instead of give the C’s the ball,
3) only leaving 0.7 seconds on the clock when he was “fouled” with 1.6 seconds left and
4) winding the clock after the tip instead of during possession.
